There are two more Super League matches for us to get stuck into on Friday with one match on the TV and the other one not and by the end of the night the playoff picture and the bottom four could start to take shape. We begin with the TV game.
Warrington Wolves vs Leeds Rhinos
Two sides who were given pretty big beatings at the Magic Weekend meet in front of the cameras at the Halliwell Jones Stadium as high flying Warrington host struggling Leeds.
Warrington looked to be cruising to a win over Castleford last week when they held a huge early lead but the Tigers came storming back to win going away so the Wolves have to bounce back from that. To help them do that they are likely to have Chris Sandow, Rhys Evans, Brad Dwyer and Ryan Atkins back to really strengthen their ranks.
Leeds were torn apart for the second successive week at the Magic Weekend and the worry was how easily a stuttering Wigan attack cut them open. Rob Burrow, Liam Sutcliffe, Mitch Allgood and Brett Delaney all come back into the squad for this match but it won’t make any difference if they don’t muscle up in defence.
Very rarely do I take sides to cover a double figure handicap against the Leeds Rhinos but the way Leeds are defending right now I simply have to. If Sandow’s return takes Warrington back to the form they had at the beginning of the season you have to fear for Leeds who have now shipped a pretty alarming 158 points in their last four matches.
This Warrington attack can be frightening on the right night so a dozen points is likely to be the least the winning margin will be here. Warrington all the way for me in this one.
Salford Red Devils vs Wakefield Trinity Wildcats
Two sides who both picked up narrow wins at the Magic Weekend meet in the other match of the night as Salford take on Wakefield. Wakefield have now won five of their last six matches and are really building up a head of steam whereas Salford are stuttering.
Salford’s chances here haven’t been helped by the suspension that Justin Carney picked up in the aftermath of the Magic Weekend. Niall Evalds replaces him in the squad but the Devils will need to find someone else to get through Carney’s workload.
Wakefield welcome Reece Lynn back from injury and that will be a big boost to a side who don’t really need any more of a boost given their wonderful recent form. Anthony England serves a one game ban for a misdemeanour in Newcastle.
Salford are the favourites for this match but I’ve a feeling Wakefield will continue their good form in this one. That said I haven’t got enough of a feeling to put my money where my mouth is and in truth I’m reluctant to take on this Salford half back pairing so the game has a bit of a trappy feel about it which means it might be best left alone.
