Super League – Million Pound Match: Hull KR vs Salford Red Devils Betting Preview

Someone will lose their Super League status on Saturday afternoon when Hull KR host Salford Red Devils in the Million Pound Match at Craven Park. Both sides have verbally criticised the concept of this match quite strongly in the run up to the game but all that needs to be put to one side for 80 huge minutes to preserve their top flight lives.

Hull KR

Hull KR have already botched one chance of survival in these qualifiers when they couldn’t get over the line against Huddersfield last week. What was probably worse for them after making an excellent second half comeback was the fact Huddersfield won the game with a drop goal that didn’t look to go over the post.

In fairness I didn’t think Rovers were that bad against Huddersfield and they should take many more positives out of the match than negatives although how much what has gone before plays any part in this match remains to be seen. Hull KR will hope it does as they beat Salford earlier in the qualifiers.

Salford Red Devils

Barely a couple of weeks go by without some news story coming out of Salford but this would be by far the most destructive of all if they were to lose their Super League standing. Inconsistent doesn’t do Salford justice but they came good last week when there was a chance they might not even make this match which should bode well for them.

The biggest concern for Salford going into the match is their defence which has leaked points throughout the campaign. They have put up plenty of points at times though and they will need their attack to be right on it here if they are to survive.

Team News

James Greenwood has been ruled out of this match through injury so James Webster has called Kevin Larroyer into the side. Albert Kelly misses out with talk being that he’s played his final match for the club.

Salford are without the suspended Adam Walne who picked up a ban for a dangerous throw last week. His place in the squad will be taken by Craig Kopczak in the only change to the squad.

Betting

I think before we bet we have to appreciate what sort of match we’re going to be watching here and it is likely to be a nerve fuelled, error strewn dog of a match really but that is what the pressure on the game will dictate.

There won’t be a lot between these two because we know both sets of players will put everything on the line and it will come down to an error here or a piece of magic there. The other thing it could come down to is who defends their line the best and all the evidence suggests that will be Hull KR. Throw in home advantage as well and I’m with them for this one.
