There are two televised matches from the Super League on Saturday with one of them from the qualifiers and another from the super 8s as we start to head nearer to the climax of the season.
Leigh head to Hull KR to open the match before Catalans take on Warrington in a huge match for the visitors. We’ll preview them both in the order in which they kick off.
Hull KR vs Leigh Centurions
Two sides who have hopes of playing in the Super League next season meet at Craven Park on Saturday and you would say this is a bigger match for the home side than the visitors. With three wins from three and a match against a Championship side still to come Leigh can probably afford to lose this match and still make the top three. Hull KR certainly can’t.
We know Hull KR can play the big matches well. We saw that in their run to Wembley last season and there have been matches where they have had to win this season and they have done so which makes taking them on a tough ask.
Leigh have spent big this season and you get the feeling they have to get promoted this year or they will really struggle. A big pack has been put together to dominate even the Super League sides and this should be a good test for them. They have beaten Salford already which bodes well.
Hull KR are giving Leigh 10pts on the bookmakers’ lines and there is something inside me which says that is too much but then at the same time I’m not sure I want to take Hull KR on at home so I’m going to tentatively leave this one.
Catalans Dragons vs Warrington Wolves
Out of form Catalans host a Warrington side with their tails between their legs after losing the Challenge Cup final last weekend. Not only do they have to overcome that disappointment but they now have to travel to France to take on a side who had last week off. That isn’t an easy thing for them to do.
Catalans have been bang out of form for far too long so they will need to have found something in the week off to give them a chance of finishing the season strongly. The one thing they have found is a few players back from injury. Ritchie Myler, Jodie Broughton and Justin Horo return which could be important.
The reason why that could be so vital is because of the amount of players that Warrington are missing with injury in the fallout from the cup final last week. The Wolves are without Ben Westwood, Kurt Gidley, Chris Sandow, Rhys Evans, Daryl Clark and Joe Westerman and that is a serious amount of talent to be without.
Normally I wouldn’t go near the Catalans Dragons in their current form but the injuries that Warrington have coupled with the fact that the French side had their feet up gives me enough motivation to take the home side to cover what we could well look back on after the game as being a very small looking handicap.
