Super League XXII – Friday 8th September Matches Betting Preview

This latest big round of Super League matches continues on Friday night with two more games, one of which carries plenty of significance while the other is a meeting between the top two sides in the table.

It shows how important the Hull FC vs Wigan match is that it is the televised game when the leading duo oppose each other. The match is not just a Challenge Cup final rerun but a massive game in the race for the play-offs. We’ll begin with that match.

Hull FC vs Wigan Warriors

Hull FC in third place can all but secure their spot in the play-offs with a win here but so tightly closed in are the chasing pack that Wigan Warriors will leap from fifth into third if they can extract revenge for their Wembley defeat.

I don’t think this will be about the cup loss for Wigan although I’m sure it may add a little fuel to their fire. Hull FC are going to be missing four pretty key men for this match with Gareth Ellis and Steve Michaels suspended and Carlos Tuimavave and Chris Green out injured.

Wigan have brought Joel Tomkins and Tom Davies back into their squad even though they won at St Helens last week. That was one of seven wins from their last nine matches as the Warriors have turned a hopeless looking season into one which could yet yield the biggest prize – the defence of their title.

There is never much between these two teams but I just wonder if the extra motivation Wigan may have will lead them to the win here. Forget the cup defeat their season is over if they lose here. At odds against I’ll take them to avoid that happening.

Castleford Tigers vs Leeds Rhinos

The top two meet at the Mend-a-Hose with not much on the line apart from local bragging rights. These two will be on the semi-finals later in the season and they will avoid each other when they get there so apart from laying a marker down not much is at stake.

Castleford have beaten Leeds three times this season and I wouldn’t be surprised if they make that four times especially with Rob Burrow out for the visitors but I said a couple of weeks ago that Tigers matches are no longer betting propositions with Daryl Powell keeping his squad fresh for the play-offs. I stand by that thought so I’ll sit this one out.
