There is one Super League match to begin another round of action on Thursday night and it sees the new boys to the competition Leigh Centurions hosting the bottom placed side Warrington Wolves.
Warrington’s poor start to the season has turned this into a huge match for both sides so we should be guaranteed some fast paced, high octane action to open up the weekend.
Leigh Centurions
It has been a tough start to life in Super League for the Leigh Centurions overall but they have enjoyed a couple of good home wins and they will be looking for another here in what is a pretty big match for them. If they are to stay in Super League beyond this season then this is a match they will have to win.
Scoring points hasn’t been a concern for Leigh in the campaign so far apart from when they went to Wigan but keeping them out at the other end has been at times although that changed last week when they defeated Huddersfield Giants without conceding a single point. That gave them something to build on here.
Warrington Wolves
The Warrington Wolves are the mystery of the season so far. It appears that Super League is set up for a mystery team at the minute. Leeds Rhinos and Huddersfield Giants both struggled last season when expected to be Grand Final contenders and the Wolves are doing exactly the same here which is very strange indeed.
The weirdest thing about this Warrington start to the season was we saw what they can do when they took the Brisbane Broncos to the cleaners earlier in the campaign in the World Club Series. They have had injuries it has to be said but they still shouldn’t be in the position that they are and this is a huge game for them now.
Team News
Leigh Centurions have Glenn Stewart back. The Australian is fit for the first time since the opening match of the season. James Green and Ben Reynolds also come into the squad for the home side.
Warrington Wolves have their leader through the middle back in Chris Hill. He is the only change to the squad which means the likes of Stefan Ratchford, Kevin Penny and Ben Currie remain out injured.
Betting
I understand why people would fancy Leigh here. They are beginning to make the Village a fortress but I expect Warrington to kick into life at some point and it could well be here in front of the cameras where they come good.
The bet I like in the match is for over 44.5pts. These two sides both know where the opposing try line is but you wouldn’t say either defence is watertight. This has a feel of an end to end clash about it but there is no doubt that if Warrington are bang on it they could nail a significant percentage of this line. Leigh will score too so I’m happy we’ll see more than this number of points.
