Super League XXII – Saturday 11th February Matches Betting Preview

The opening weekend of the Super League season continues on Saturday when two more matches are played out including a bonus match on our television screens. The two sides who competed in the Grand Final last season both get their campaigns underway in the two games on Saturday. As ever we’ll begin our preview with the game which is on TV.

Catalans Dragons vs Warrington Wolves

The beaten Grand Finalists Warrington Wolves are the first visitors to France this season to take on a Catalans Dragons side who on paper look to have regressed but that could only make them dangerous if they have a couple of hidden gems up their sleeve.

The Dragons have lost some big players in the off season and were regressing anyway so they need to stand up and be counted right from the start to ease any fears and concerns around them. That won’t be easy against a Warrington side who have recruited well and look like they might be even stronger than they were last season.

With the likes of Mike Cooper, Dom Crosby and Andre Savelio all likely to make their debuts in what was already a decent side I think Warrington can go to France and nail the Catalans for a second year in succession. Luke Walsh is being made out to be a good signing for the French side but he flattered to deceive at the end of his Saints spell and that adds to my confidence in Warrington.

Salford Red Devils vs Wigan Warriors

Prior to the live game Salford Red Devils entertain the champions Wigan Warriors at the AJ Bell Stadium. This is an important game for both sides. Salford have the chance to lay a marker down that they will be the side who would have finished in the top eight last season but for their points deduction while Wigan will be out to prove they can defend their title even in light of the players they’ve lost.

There has been a decent turnover of players at the DW Stadium this season so I wouldn’t mind the opportunity to gauge this Wigan side before I get involved in them. In many ways the same can be said about Salford too. I’ve a hunch Salford are overpriced here given that Wigan will surely have next week on their minds but even then I can’t bring myself to back Salford even on a handicap. I’ll sit this one out.
