Super League XXII – Wakefield Trinity vs Castleford Tigers Betting Preview

Another round of Super League matches begins on Thursday night and it does so with the leaders Castleford Tigers in action. They head to their local rivals Wakefield Trinity in what is a big match for this stage of the season.

Trinity will move into the top four if they can win the match while Castleford would move 12pts clear of their rivals and all but secure a spot in the play-offs even this early in the season should they come out victorious.

Wakefield Trinity

Trinity ended a run of three successive defeats in all competitions last week when they beat the Warrington Wolves on Saturday night and they will be looking to back that up here to dispel any fears that they will fall away like they did last season. To beat a side who are flying would make a big statement.

Wakefield have always had plenty of points in them which is a positive for this match because they are going to need to score well. The concern is whether they can keep the door shut at the other end and that is something they may well find difficult against this rampant Castleford attack. They will have to be at their best defensively.

Castleford Tigers

There is seemingly no stopping the Castleford Tigers at the minute. They are rampant when it comes to scoring tries and they have scoring potential little all across the pitch which is great to watch and it is makes then one of the most entertaining sides in the competition with their flair and their flamboyance.

The biggest improvement in Castleford this season and one of the reasons why they are challenging for the title this year has been in their defensive play with better organisation and a more aggressive intent really proving to be a winning combination. Their defence combined with their attack play is a formidable combination.

Team News

Trinity are going to be without Reece Lyne for this match after he failed to get a suspension overturned. He is the only man from last week who isn’t in the squad.

Castleford have Greg Minikin back from injury to further bolster their attack. Tom Holmes sits this one out along with Kevin Larroyer but Andy Lynch makes a return to the side.

Betting

This should be a good way to begin another round of matches and while the match odds and the handicaps look about right the points line could be a touch on the low side.

The line is 49.5 and when you think the last three meetings between these two have all had more than 60pts in them you can see why it looks a little low. The forecast for the match is set to be good so both sides can give the ball some air and let their attacks dominate so I’m on the over there.
