Super League XXIV – Hull KR vs Leeds Rhinos Betting Preview

Another weekend begins in the Super League on Thursday evening when the Leeds Rhinos head to Humberside to take on Hull KR in a match between two sides who are locked in the congested lower half of the table.

It has been a tough few weeks for both these sides but one of them will enjoy their weekend as we head towards the busy Easter period where this table could really begin to spread itself out a little. It will be interesting to see who it is who comes out on top in this one.

Hull KR

Hull KR made a bright start to the campaign but as injuries began to hit them they have dipped alarmingly and head into this contest off the back of a run of five defeats in their last six. Heading into the Challenge Cup next week they could really do with ending that slump here to give them a platform to build on over Easter.

To be fair to Rovers, a lot of their defeats have been competitive for the most part but they have now shipped 78pts in their last two matches, which has to be a concern, and they will need to do something about that pretty soon. On the flip side they were more competitive than the scoreline eventually suggested against St Helens last week.

Leeds Rhinos

To say it has been a poor start to the season for the Leeds Rhinos would be something of an understatement. It has been horrendous, to the point that they were actually bottom of the pile prior to their Golden Point win over the Castleford Tigers last week. They now need to take that victory and build on it with another one here ahead of a busy period in the season.

To be fair to the Rhinos, a number of their defeats have been by a converted score or less so they are not a million miles away from being in a much better position than they currently are but home defeats to Wakefield and London don’t look good. They have the chance to show their worth here though and will be eyeing up a second win which will make their league spot look much healthier.

Team News

Hull KR will recall Danny Maguire and Robbie Mulhern to their ranks after both have recovered from injuries which have kept them out in recent times. They are both expected to go straight into the starting 13.

Leeds Rhinos will be without the suspended pair of Brett Ferres and Ritchie Myler for this match. There is a chance they could have new signing Wellington Albert included in their set up though if his clearance comes through in time.

Betting

It is never easy to bet on two sides who are not in great form but the sudden collapse in Hull KR defensively is a real concern for me so I’m going to take the Leeds Rhinos. There is no doubt in my mind that the Rhinos are a better side than their league position suggests and I expect them to get stronger as the campaign goes on as they get used to their new coach and things.

Hull KR have been more than competitive at Craven Park this term but as competitive as they have been they haven’t won many matches recently. Leeds haven’t either but if the success over the Castleford Tigers last week has ignited a spark in them then they might just edge the day here. I’ll take the Rhinos in this one.
