Super League XXIV – Saturday 23rd February Matches Betting Preview

Two more Super League matches take place on a lengthened weekend of action on Saturday afternoon, one of which is live on Sky for those of us who enjoy watching the competition on TV of an evening.

Three of the four teams on show on Saturday are expected to fight it out to avoid being the side relegated at the end of the campaign so we should be treated to a competitive, and potentially important Saturday.

Hull KR vs Salford Red Devils

Two sides who have made decent enough starts to their campaigns meet at Craven Park as Hull KR take on the Salford Red Devils in a clash which is going to see the winner progress to six points already in the season.

Before the season began I would have had Hull KR as a comfortable winner of this match but credit needs to go to the Salford Red Devils. They have started the season strongly and could actually be an ounce of value in this match. I can’t bring myself to back them though but I no longer have a desperation to take them on just now so I’ll leave this match alone.

London Broncos vs Castleford Tigers

The TV match on Saturday comes from Ealing where the London Broncos will look for their second win of the campaign when they play host to the former Grand Finalists Castleford Tigers in what will be a test of where the Broncos are this term.

London have played one match in front of their own crowd this season, a match they won against Wakefield Trinity and while they have lost a couple of away matches since then, they were competitive last week and weren’t terrible at Salford. Castleford have a 100% record so far this term and had last week off to reflect and improve ahead of this one.

Like many, I would expect Castleford to win this match but it is a tricky trip to go and win by more than 14pts. London are well drilled in defence and have a good enough kicking game to keep themselves in good field position. They also have the back line to burst through and score so any Castleford win may well be narrower than the handicap. I’ll go with the Broncos with 14 on their side.
