The latest round of matches in the Super League XXIX season begins on Friday night where there are two huge fixtures on the schedule, both of which could have significant implications on the remainder of the season.
As has been the case throughout the campaign, both of these matches are live on TV and with two of the top three on show and a couple of teams needing the points to make the top six it is a good night to sit back and watch both games if you can!
Hull KR vs Salford Red Devils (20.00 – Sky Sports Action)
The main match on Friday night as far as the TV coverage is concerned is the one which sees the league leaders Hull KR playing host to a Salford Red Devils who are fighting hard to reach the playoffs come the end of the campaign.
Hull KR are generally tough to beat at Craven Park and they will hope that remains the case here as they know that barring something incredible, if they win their last four matches this season they will win the League Leaders’ Shield. That milestone is for later in the piece but the immediate aim will be to secure a top two finish and get the week off between the end of the regular season and the finals and a win here would go a long way to achieving that. Salford are beginning to look good for a spot in the top six but they won’t want to leave the door open and a win here would have extra significance as it could strengthen their top four hopes which would see them hosting their opening playoff match. This one has all sorts of connotations around it which should see us guaranteed a competitive clash. I certainly wouldn’t want to be massively against Hull KR in their current form but with Tim Lafai back and off the back of sticking a 60 burger up on Huddersfield last week there is a case to be made for the Red Devils staying within 14 points but with them having not scored in their last two visits here and being well beaten in the previous three this might just be a place that Salford don’t feel comfortable so I’ll leave betting in this one alone.

Leigh Leopards vs Warrington Wolves (20.00 – Sky Sports+)
It might be that the more important match in terms of the business end of the season comes from the Leigh Sports Village where the Leigh Leopards go up against the Warrington Wolves in a huge night for the home side in particular.
Leigh sit one place outside the playoff spots but a win here and they will go into them until at least Sunday when their rivals for the top six have the chance to answer whatever they do here. This is the chance they have been waiting for when putting their good run of form together. It isn’t a meaningless night for the Warrington Wolves either though. They are still chasing down top spot and the League Leaders’ Shield that comes with it but they are also hoping for a top two spot if they fall short in that chase to get the week off ahead of the semi-final. They have a chance to put a bit of pressure on Wigan Warriors if they can win here and might even move level on points with Hull KR if they were to lose in the other match on the evening so the Wolves will be up for this one. I think this is an even looking match but I am going to side with Warrington Wolves for a couple of reasons. The first one is that the gamble going down on the Leopards has pushed the Warrington price out to a very acceptable level and the other is that Leigh have lost every match they have played against the top three this season both in league and cup. Another factor is the absence of John Asiata for the home side and while in an ideal world we would have Matt Dufty available for Warrington, they didn’t miss him last week and there is enough in the Wolves ranks to get the job done in his absence. I’ll take Warrington here.
