Super League XXIX – Saturday 27th July Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The latest weekend of action in the Super League XXIX season concludes on Saturday with the final two matches of the round taking place across England and France as the race for the playoffs begins to intensify.

Two of those teams who are involved in the race are on show on Saturday so we should be in for a decent double header where once again both matches will be able to be viewed on TV for those who want to follow their bets.

Salford Red Devils vs Castleford Tigers (15.00 – Sky Sports Action)

The opening match of the day comes from the AJ Bell Stadium as the Salford Red Devils will look to remain relatively comfortable in the race for the top six now that we are into the final third of the season. An improved Castleford Tigers team will be their opposition.

Salford Red Devils going into this match off the back of two successive defeats which came at the wrong time. The worrying thing for the Red Devils in them is that they scored a cumulative eight points in those two matches. They will be quick to point out that they came without key centre Tim Lafai and he is back in the squad for this one which is important. Jayden Nikorima is in line for a debut in this match as well. That should boost the Red Devils but Castleford head to Salford off the back of three straight wins, two of which have been away from home, which includes one against the former champions St Helens while they also held out against the Catalans Dragons and should be in good spirits here. Castleford have beaten Salford 36-24 at The Jungle this season while they went down by four points here back in February when they looked like a bit of a mess. They are much improved now so with the eight point start I think the Tigers are the play here.

Catalans Dragons vs Hull FC (18.00 – Sky Sports Action)

The last match of the weekend comes from down in France where the Catalans Dragons will be looking to make their own noise in the Olympic 2024 host nation when they take on Hull FC in a key game for the home side.

The Dragons have got themselves into a bit of a mess with form and injuries and they have had to turn back to Sam Tomkins who has come out of retirement to help them out and he will make a second Catalans debut in this match. The pressure is very much on the French side here after Leeds Rhinos have closed into within two points of them. They need to pick up a win here. Hull FC have had a bit of a car crash of a campaign but there have been a number of improved performances in recent times and that was finally reward when they got the better of the champions Wigan Warriors last week. The concern would be that the form of that win couldn’t have fallen off a cliff much more on Friday night when Wigan were demolished by Warrington. I still think the 16pt start Hull FC are getting might be too big given the Dragons’ problems but while they are not as dominant at home these days, Catalans have covered this start against Hull KR, Leeds and Salford on home soil in their last six games here so I’m happy to leave this one alone rather than chance my arm on a Hull side who haven’t won a Super League away game for more than a year.
