The Super League XXIX season is getting very interesting now and another round of matches get going on Thursday evening when two games are played in the competition as four teams look to enhance their position in the table.
As is the case throughout the season, every Super League XXIX match is live on the TV for us to enjoy and although both of these matches kick off at the same time, if you have more than one device you should be in for a decent evening of rugby league watching.
Wigan Warriors vs Huddersfield Giants (20.00 – Sky Sports Action)
The pick of the two matches on Thursday evening comes from the DW Stadium where Wigan Warriors will look to regain top spot in the standings for a day or so at least when they host the Huddersfield Giants.
The Warriors have suddenly lost their last two matches which has seen them drop down to third on point difference so any positive result here will see them move back to the top until the remainder of the matches are played this weekend. Wigan do have a game in hand and that comes next week so this is a really important point in their season. Injuries haven’t been helping them. Both of those defeats were without Jai Field and Bevan French in their side but the former is back here, however starting hooker Brad O’Neill has been ruled out for the remainder of the season now with an ACL injury. That should see a deeper role for Kruise Leeming here. The Giants have made a Horlicks of this campaign and are playing out time this season and just looking to build something for next term but they have the chance to play the role of party spoiler here. If that is going to happen then they are going to need to be a whole lot better than they were in defeat to Leeds last week where they were very ordinary. The loss of captain Luke Yates to Warrington might have brought about part of that terrible showing. Both these teams looked terrible last week but that loss to the Wolves might have been a shock to the system for the Warriors and with Field back I expect them to bounce back here and wouldn’t be surprised if they cover here but with another big match coming on Tuesday they might ease up a touch when this is won which brings the back door cover into play so I’ll leave this one alone.

Castleford Tigers vs Leigh Leopards (20.00 – Sky Sports Arena)
The other match is a big one for the Leigh Leopards as they look to make a late push to reach the playoffs for the second season in a row. They head to The Jungle knowing that they really need to get the better of the Castleford Tigers for that to happen.
The Leopards head into this match off the back of three wins in a row which has moved them to within five points of St Helens, who currently occupy the last playoff spot, with a game in hand which comes along on Tuesday so a win here and a win in that and Leigh really would be surging. They will need to improve on their recent away form though if they are going to get the job done here. Castleford lost at Salford last week but prior to that they had won three on the trot and look like they are starting to click into gear with no competitive pressure on them. There has definitely been improvement in the Tigers the longer the season has gone on and while you could say the same about the Leopards, I think Castleford are ready to challenge in a match of this kind. Whether they are in position to win this one remains to be seen but I think they are going better than a 10 point handicap would suggest. They would have covered that at Salford last week and I think they’ll cover it here too.
