Super League XXV – Thursday 29th October Matches Tips and Betting Preview

The Super League season continues on Thursday evening when two matches take place at the Totally Wicked Stadium in St Helens as we get ever nearer to finding out the identity of the teams who will be battling it out for a place in the Grand Final next month.

Four Yorkshire sides are involved in what should be two great matches to begin the latest round of games, both of which are being televised live on Sky Sports on what should be a decent evening of action in the competition.

The Format

There has been a change in the format of the season. The ‘loop matches’ and Magic Weekend have bitten the dust so teams will play 20 regular season matches ahead of the playoffs. Scrums are a thing of the past for the remainder of the season. They are being replaced with a tap restart to prevent the spread of the virus. The ‘six to go’ rule that is being used in NRL is also coming into the Super League with more eyes likely to be on the game with other sports yet to get back up and running. It has since been announced that the Super League table will be based on point percentage rather than total points.

Leeds Rhinos vs Wakefield Trinity (17.30)

The opening match of the double header on Thursday sees the Leeds Rhinos continuing their push for the play-offs when they take on a Wakefield Trinity side who have won their last two matches as they look to finish their troubled season with a flourish.

The Rhinos go into this match off the back of a good win over the Castleford Tigers on Monday but that hasn’t left them much in the way of recovery time for this one so that has to be a concern for them. Wakefield only played on Sunday though so it isn’t as though they are going to be completely fresh themselves which makes betting on this a little difficult. My temptation is to go with Wakefield but this one is a bit of a lottery given the schedule so I’ll leave it alone.

Hull KR vs Hull FC (19.45)

The second match of the two on offer on Thursday is the latest Hull derby as the red half of the city go up against the black and white part of it with only bragging rights at stake in the game as Hull KR meet Hull FC, but that is more than enough for these two sides to be playing for.

These two teams have both suffered nightmare campaigns for various reasons, one of which is they have both had their issues with Covid-19 and indeed Hull KR will be without their head coach Tony Smith for this one while he self isolates which isn’t ideal. Hull FC have had more than their fair share of issues with the virus but for them it is now about finishing the season strongly and a win here would be a cracking way of doing such a thing.

Hull FC will go into this one as the fresher of the two sides having not played for 11 days which is a bit of a luxury these days but they do have one or two injuries. Hull KR will be playing their third match in seven days so they are going to be up against it and it probably isn’t a surprise they have started haemorrhaging points like they have. I expect that to continue here but pride and the meaning of the game should see Hull KR look to continue to throw the ball around and try and get something from this game. I’m expecting a lot of high scoring matches from here on in with defensive efforts so hard to muster up with tired bodies and as a result of that the over 42.5 points looks good to me here.
