Super League XXVII – Friday 11th February Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The opening round of matches in the new Super League season continues on Friday evening when two more games take place as four more teams get another campaign of action up and running, each looking for the fast start everyone desires.

We have won of the two matches live on the TV to enjoy on Friday evening. The coverage on Sky is pretty comprehensive though so we should get regular updates throughout the evening on the other game. There will be regular social media posts too.

Hull KR vs Wigan Warriors (20.00 – Sky Main Event & Sky Sports Arena)

The televised action on Friday evening comes from Craven Park where two teams who made it to the play-offs last term start a new season as Hull KR take on a Wigan Warriors outfit who will be under new leadership on and off the field.

Hull KR will be looking to show further improvement from the incredible upgrade they made in their play last season and the addition of Lachlan Coote is very much a sign of their intent. They had a good young side with one of the best back lines in the competition last season so his experience and leadership will be valuable. Wigan will be led by rookie coach Matt Peet for the first time and it will be interesting to see if the new coach has been able to solve their offensive problems. The Warriors were the second lowest point scorers in the competition last year and the longer the season went on the more boring they got to watch. They have reinforced this season but you would imagine it will take a few weeks for their new plans to come to fruition. Hull KR don’t have any of those issues and look value to begin their season with a win.

Castleford Tigers vs Salford Red Devils (20.00)

The other match on Friday evening sees two more teams who are under new coaches getting their season underway when the Castleford Tigers meet the Salford Red Devils in a game both will hope can set the tone for what is to come over the next seven months.

The Tigers will be led by Lee Radford for the first time in this match while it is Paul Rowley who will be in charge of the Red Devils. Both teams have had a huge turnover of players in the off season. To be fair to their owners, they have both backed their new coaches but key men have left or retired since last season and so both teams might need to create a new culture here. I would imagine the class of Castleford to come to the fore here but they are having to cover a pretty big handicap to get any value out them and it might be a little early in the season to justify backing them to do that so I’ll leave this second match alone.
