The latest Super League XXVII round of matches continues on Friday evening when another two games take place as the season begins to take shape and the leading protagonists start to make their way towards the top of the table.
We have one match on TV on Friday evening and then the other should be regularly updated on in the TV coverage so if you bet then there is no reason not to be able to be on top of what is going on throughout the night. We’ll begin our preview with the TV game even though it is the later one to kick off.
Salford Red Devils vs Leeds Rhinos (20.00 – Sky Sports Arena)
The TV match on Friday night is a big one for the two sides involved as the Salford Red Devils take on the Leeds Rhinos at the AJ Bell Stadium with both teams looking for a convincing performance to boost what has been an indifferent start to the campaign.
Salford started the season with a couple of wins but they have lost three straight since then so the doubts that were surrounding them heading into the season haven’t really gone away even though the noise was softened during that opening fortnight of the campaign. Now they are in front of the cameras they will be looking to show what they are all about. Salford were expected to struggle this season but the Leeds Rhinos certainly weren’t so their solitary win from five starts clearly isn’t what was planned when the campaign began. They were unfortunate in the opening week when decisions influenced their defeat to the Warrington Wolves however but for a brief glimmer of hope when they beat Wakefield Trinity this year hasn’t got going for the Headingley outfit and the way Hull FC overwhelmed them last week did not inspire confidence. Someone will win this but both are under a lot of pressure and I think this is one best watched rather than invested in.

Catalans Dragons vs Hull KR (19.30)
The match which will not be shown in front of the UK TV cameras comes from France where Catalans Dragons take on Hull KR in what will be a rerun of the Super League semi-final from last season which the home side won to book their spot in the Grand Final.
Catalans lost their opening match this term but have won the four since which includes comfortable wins over the Warrington Wolves and the Wigan Warriors in the last two weeks. Wigan were kept scoreless on this ground last year and with the Dragons getting players back to give Steve McNamara options be it from the bench or back in the side you sense they are going to go from strength to strength. Hull KR have a couple of wins and three defeats from their opening five matches. Their three losses have been to the current top three in the table though so they probably shouldn’t be written off on that evidence. The two wins have been against disappointing Castleford Tigers and Salford Red Devils sides though and they need to show more than those to be considered the side they were last season. I think Hull KR will struggle here. Catalans look to be going through the gears nicely and unless Mikey Lewis plays out of his skin again I think the Dragons will be far too strong here.
