Super League XXVII – Friday 25th February Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The new Super League season continues on Friday evening when two more matches take place in the competition as the fledgling campaign begins to pick up speed. We have four sides on show who will be looking to make a strong showing on the night.

Among the sides on show are the champions St Helens but they don’t actually play in the TV match. That comes in the form of a Yorkshire derby but I’m sure the coverage will keep us up to date with the other game too.

Hull KR vs Castleford Tigers (20.00 – Sky Sports Arena)

The televised match on Friday evening comes from Craven Park where two sides who are yet to get off the mark for the season attempt to do so when Hull KR meet the Castleford Tigers in what might turn into a feisty contest given the need to win for both teams.

Both Hull KR and Castleford Tigers have lost their opening two matches. Hull KR have gone down to the Wigan Warriors and Huddersfield Giants while the Tigers have been beaten by the Salford Red Devils and Warrington Wolves so both have had a win which might have been expected from the outside and one which will have disappointed them. I like more of what I’ve seen from Hull KR than I have Castleford though. You would imagine Castleford will improve the more they work under Lee Radford but already injuries are hurting them. While it isn’t ideal that Hull KR are without Lachlan Coote, they went well without him last season and in Mikey Lewis they have the man who can open the game up. KR’s defensive line has looked in better shape than the Tigers’ one so far and with home advantage on top I think Hull can win this one.

St Helens vs Wakefield Trinity (20.00)

The match away from the televised spotlight sees the champions St Helens look to continue their unbeaten start to the competition when they host a currently winless Wakefield Trinity, who have put two decent shifts in to no avail thus far.

Saints have picked up where they left off last season and are already looking like they are going to take a lot of stopping. Wins over Catalans Dragons and Hull FC have been emphatic and every bit as dominant as the score suggests. Wakefield have toiled hard in defeats to the same two clubs but ultimately they will need points on the board soon. You wouldn’t think they will come here though with Saints looking so good. Sport doesn’t follow logical form guides but Saints have beaten the two teams who have beaten Wakefield which suggests the champions will be good things here. Whether they cover a 24pt handicap is less certain though. If I had to pick one way or the other I’d back them to cover but with the weather the way it is right now I’m happy to sit this one out.
