The Rivals Round of the Super League XXVII season concludes on Good Friday with the two biggest derby matches in the competition as the sport has the opportunity to showcase the best of what it has to offer in a double header of action.
We sort out the bragging rights in Hull to open up the day before the top two meet in the second game of the day. Both the matches are live on the TV so there is no need to miss out on a minute of what should be a great day of rugby league.
Hull KR vs Hull FC (12.30 – Sky Main Event & Sky Sports Arena)
The opening match of the day comes from Craven Park where the red part of Hull meets the black half in what is always an epic contest, potentially spiced up even more this season by the fact there is little between Hull KR and Hull FC in the Super League table.
Hull KR have made an acceptable start to the Super League season without it being anything special but they have made it into the semi-final of the Challenge Cup in a few weeks so things will be positive around Craven Park. Hull FC have won four of their seven Super League matches but couldn’t go with Huddersfield Giants in the cup last weekend which will have disappointed them. This is a real fierce derby and nothing is ever left behind in it but team news is massively on the side of Hull FC because Hull KR will be without their wildcard Mikey Lewis. He’s the man who takes the ball to the defensive line, commits men and opens defences up and he’s going to be a huge loss for the home side in this one. Two of the three matches Hull FC have lost in the Super League this season have been against the top two. They have won four of the last five derbies and I think they extend that record here.

St Helens vs Wigan Warriors (15.00 – Sky Main Event & Sky Sports Arena)
The top two meet in the second match of the day in front of a sold out crowd inside the Totally Wicked Stadium as the champions St Helens host their bitter arch rivals Wigan Warriors in what is sure to be a competitive and feisty affair.
These two have proven themselves to be the two best teams in the Super League so far this season and they will go head to head in the semi-final of the Challenge Cup in a few weeks as well. Saints have looked imperious with the exception of their defeat to Toulouse Olympique which came out of the blue. The French side gave Wigan a scare as well though so perhaps there is something about that area of France which disagrees with these two teams. There isn’t much else that does though and while my hunch is that Wigan are getting far too big a start here, the news that Zak Hardaker won’t play this match because of an internal issue is a concern while if Saints are on it they can blow any side away like we saw in the cup last week. This one is definitely one to enjoy without the need for a bet.
