The Easter weekend in the Super League kicks off on Thursday night when four of the six matches in the first of the two rounds of action takes place on what has the makings of being a decent evening of rugby league.
This first Easter round is ‘Rivals Round’ and we have one match to enjoy on the TV while I’m sure there will be regular updates on the TV coverage of the other three games because there are potential stories everywhere you look.
Thursday’s fixtures are as follows: (UK kick off and TV in brackets)
Catalans Dragons v Toulouse (19.30 – Sky Sports Arena)
Wakefield Trinity v Castleford Tigers (19.45)
Leeds Rhinos v Huddersfield Giants (20.00)
Warrington Wolves v Salford Red Devils (20.00)

Preview
The televised action comes from across the Channel where the first ever French derby will take place in Perpignan as the Catalans Dragons will look to bounce back from their humbling at the hands of St Helens in the Challenge Cup last week when they host Toulouse Olympique. Elsewhere there is a Yorkshire derby as an injury ravaged Wakefield Trinity welcome their rivals Castleford Tigers to Belle Vue in a match which could end up going either way.
The other two matches sees two teams under pressure going in search of a morale boosting win. One of those is the Leeds Rhinos who look to be in a right mess at the minute. The last thing they need is a visit from the Huddersfield Giants who will be boosted by making the Challenge Cup semi-final. Warrington Wolves are another team who are in a slump and under serious pressure to find a win to open up their Easter period. They will go in search of that when they take on the Salford Red Devils at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.
Betting
There has been little to like about the Leeds Rhinos this season and I’m not expecting things to get much better for them when they host the Huddersfield Giants on Thursday evening. Jamie Jones Buchanan is a positive bloke and keeps talking a lot of uplifting stuff but on the field there are no signs of progress from Leeds and Aiden Sezer continuing to miss out is unlikely to help matters because one of the big problems Leeds have is a distinct lack of creativity.
The one advantage Leeds have on the Giants is that they were sat with their feet up last week while the Giants were competing in the Challenge Cup but Huddersfield have winning momentum and positivity behind them and I think that can be a crucial thing. They have the spine of their side in good order whereas Leeds are missing one or two and you tend to find a confident team are happy to throw the ball around to open the defence up and with Leeds under all sorts of pressure they might not be prepared to take that risk. I like the Giants here.
