The Super League XXVIII weekend continues on Friday night when another four matches take place as we begin to move towards the halfway mark in what is turning into a very interesting competition so far.
As ever on a Friday night we have a match live on the TV, which looks like it could be an absolute cracker, and then there will be plenty of score updates and highlights of the other three matches throughout the coverage.
Friday’s fixtures are as follows: (8pm unless stated – UK TV in brackets)
Huddersfield Giants v Catalans Dragons (7.45pm)
Hull Kingston Rovers v St Helens
Leeds Rhinos v Hull FC

Preview
The TV cameras head to the Halliwell Jones Stadium for the clash between the top two where the 100% record of the Warrington Wolves will be on the line when the runaway table toppers welcome the Wigan Warriors to that party of the country for what should be a classic contest between two teams loaded with star names. Elsewhere on the evening, the slightly earlier kick off comes from the John Smith’s Stadium where the Huddersfield Giants will look to get a faltering campaign back on track when they host the third placed Catalans Dragons.
The champions St Helens dropped down to sixth place in the standings when the Salford Red Devils won on Thursday evening and they will look to move back up when they face a potentially awkward looking trip to Craven Park to take on a Hull KR side who are showing signs of life again. The same certainly can’t be said across the city of Hull where Hull FC are in a right rut. They will look to come out of that when they make the trip to Headingley to face a Leeds Rhinos side who they have already beaten this season.
Betting
I’m not one for backing big handicaps, especially this time of year where the action is quite hectic, but there is not much to like about Hull FC right now. They have lost their last six matches which includes a 40 point smash up in the derby last week and now have the worst defensive record in the competition, which is saying something when you consider Wakefield Trinity are in the league. Worse still for Hull FC, they have only scored six points in their last two games and have a lot of work to do.
The Leeds Rhinos do nothing to convince me but I look at their back line and there are definitely points in them. The likes of Harry Newman and Nene MacDonald have the pace and power to rip any defensive line apart let alone one struggling like this Hull one is. If Leeds have been guilty of anything this season it is not converting their chances but against this Hull side I would be surprised if that is a problem. Tex Hoy is a big loss for Hull FC and they’ve been exposed without him. Blake Austin and Aiden Sezer can open it up again here.
