Super League XXVIII – Friday 26th May Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The Super League XXVIII weekend got up and running in exciting fashion on Thursday evening and it continues on Friday night when four more matches take place both in England and over in France on what looks a good day for rugby.

With this being a Friday night we have one of the four matches live on the TV for us to enjoy and the TV coverage should give us updates on at least two of the other games with the first one kicking off prior to the others.

Friday’s fixtures are as follows: (8pm unless stated – UK TV in brackets)

Catalans Dragons v Wakefield Trinity (6pm)

Huddersfield Giants v Castleford Tigers (7.45pm)

Leeds Rhinos v St Helens (Sky Sports Main Event & Sky Sports Arena)

Leigh Leopards v Warrington Wolves

Preview

The televised action comes from Headingley on Friday evening as the Leeds Rhinos look to put their Challenge Cup exit behind them when they face the champions St Helens in what is a repeat of the Grand Final from last season. Leeds have already won at Saints this term and will want to complete the double over them while St Helens are beginning to come to the boil at long last and they will be looking to keep up their recent momentum.

Elsewhere, the Warrington Wolves will be looking to re-establish their four point gap at the top of the table when they head to the Leigh Leopards who will fancy their chances of knocking off a top side. Catalans Dragons open up the action for the evening when they host winless Wakefield Trinity over in France while two struggling Yorkshire outfits meet in a bit of a local derby at the John Smith’s Stadium when Huddersfield Giants take on the Castleford Tigers.

Betting

I wouldn’t usually back a team who have scored just four points in their last two Super League matches to cover a 10 point start but I do think the Huddersfield Giants can be good for that there. They have just put 40 points on the board against Salford Red Devils in the Challenge Cup last week and although that wasn’t enough to win the game, this Castleford Tigers offense is nothing like as good as the one which Salford possess.

Huddersfield have won the last three matches against Castleford on this ground, including a pretty emphatic 36-6 win earlier in the season. They have scored 36 points in each of those three wins and you would have to think that if they can find 36 points here it will be more than enough against a team averaging just 12 points per match in the Super League this term. The return of Chris McQueen should be big for the Giants who have had 24 hours extra turnaround time and when you whack it all in the pot I think it equates to Huddersfield winning this with a fair bit in hand.
