T20 World Cup 2021 – Top Tournament Bowler Tips and Betting Preview

We have gone through the outright market and the one for the top batter for the upcoming T20 World Cup and there is just time before the tournament begins for us to go deep into the top bowler market for the 2021 event.

As with the batters, the majority of the best bowlers in the world are on show in this tournament, which makes for a competitive market to have a go at as we see if we can find any more value out of this event before it begins.

Profile

Just like with the batsmen, it is important to sort out what we are looking for in terms of style of bowler before we get involved in this market. Each team will have at least five bowling options so that is 80 bowlers to sift through. That isn’t sustainable so if we can whittle it down to a more manageable number that might help us track down the winner.

I think primarily we should be looking at spinners. These pitches have had the IPL on them for the last month and now they have another month of cricket with double headers taking place on most days so they are sure to turn. The other ones to consider are bowlers who bowl at the death but who can take the pace off the ball and pick up some cheap wickets, particularly if the lesser batsmen are at the crease by that stage.

Market

This is another market where the first round group stage is included so this time it might be worth picking someone from that because wickets tend to come in tight denominations so every extra match your player can play will be beneficial. Most bookmakers are paying four places as well which offers up some decent place terms to help us with our outright bets on the market.

Betting

I’ll take two players, one from each type of bowler I specified in my profile. The spinner I like the look of is Wanindu Hasaranga, the mystery leg spinner who could really fill his boots in the first stage against Namibia, Ireland and the Netherlands, none of whom are renowned good players of spin. If he does that then he might only need to top up his wickets in the second stage of the competition to be a leading player in this market. Assuming they win that group, Sri Lanka go into a group with Afghanistan and New Zealand so there are wickets to be had there too. Hasaranga has 36 wickets in this format and takes them every 14.10 balls. He has 20 wickets in the 12 T20Is he has played this year and if he takes 1.66 wickets per game here his 14-15 wickets could be enough to land this thing.

The death bowler who changes his pace that I like comes in the form of Tymal Mills, the England bowler who might have the advantage of having not been at the IPL recently so some batters will be going in cold against him, unlike a lot of fancied runners in this competition who were all on show over the last month or so. Mills has terrifying pace which can blow lower orders away but his change of pace slower balls are up there with the best in the world and all coming from a left-arm angle they are hard to play. Mills was once sought after enough for teams to pay him $1m in the IPL auction and after a good campaign with Sussex in the Vitality Blast and the Southern Brave in The Hundred, I fancy him to shine on this stage too.
