Australia are not just the home side at the T20 World Cup 2022, they are the defending champions too so they will be motivated to go well over the course of the month. There is an argument to be made that this Australia squad is stronger than the one they won the tournament with but they will need to show that out on the field rather than on paper.

Team Guide
Australia are a side that ticks every box. They have star batters right throughout their team from the openers right the way down to Matthew Wade at seven and they also have a bowling attack that is the envy of many in the competition. I always think the strength of a team in a tournament like this is as much who they haven’t selected as who they have and the likes of Sean Abbott and Nathan Ellis both can’t find a way into this squad.
It is the same with the bat. Cameron Green could only get into this squad when an injury got him in and then the likes of Daniel Sams couldn’t make it in either. Of those who are in the squad Australia have a balance with the ball, a good mix of power and those who can play the sensible innings with the bat and they have plenty of lower order hitting to get themselves out of trouble should they get themselves into it. Whoever beats them could well be champions.

Betting
The strength of the Australia squad means that we have a couple of competitive betting markets for their top player but given that I am on Josh Hazlewood to be the leading bowler in the tournament I can give that one a swerve and focus on their batter market. To be fair you could make a case for plenty in this Australia squad with the bat, even those such as Tim David and Matthew Wade down the order but it is Mitchell Marsh that I like.
Marsh has a brilliant record in the Big Bash and while he might not be the most technically proficient player in this team his technique is no worse than anyone else in it so I don’t see that as too much of a negative. Marsh has been a solid player for a while and he’ll occupy the number three spot in the side. He has a career T20 average of 38.21 which is pretty insane and with the form of Aaron Finch and Glenn Maxwell under the microscope it might be that Marsh steals a march early and isn’t reeled in.
