T20 World Cup 2022 – Namibia Team Guide and Betting Preview

Namibia were the surprise package of the T20 World Cup in the UAE a year ago and such was the quality of their performances that they automatically qualified for this competition. As with a year ago, the Namibians will begin their quest for glory in the first stage of the tournament. With the experience of last year to fall on they will be hoping to make the Super 12s and who knows from there.

Team Guide

Namibia are probably still a surprise package in this tournament because they are not one of the more established nations. The fact they qualified automatically for this event based on their showing a year ago means that they have only played eight T20 matches in 2022, three against Uganda and five against Zimbabwe. There is a fear that they could be a little undercooked going into the tournament but they can still work their way into it.

The strength of this Namibia side is in their bowling attack. They have a couple of good left-arm seamers who will be a real handful, especially if the ball happens to swing. They aren’t as strong with the bat but these pitches will give them a better chance to be successful and a lack of mystery in the bowling with the exception of Sri Lanka will also help them. They need their big players to be counted but if they are they could make the Super 12 once again.

Betting

I think in many ways the batting for Namibia is much of a muchness. If I thought they would go out in the first phase then I might have chanced a David Wiese cameo somewhere to lead the batting for them in the tournament but I expect them to play eight matches as I fancy them to qualify and I think he might bat a little too low to be competitive in the order over that number of games to come out on top.

He certainly won’t be bowling too low to be the leading bowler though. This is probably a more competitive field but I still think Wiese is the standout candidate within it. He took 2/16 in the one warm up match which Namibia have been able to play ahead of this tournament and comes in here off the back of picking up seven wickets in The Hundred and 12 in the CPL. They were recent tournaments and so his relatively recent activity could give him the edge on the likes of Ruben Trumpelmann and Jan Frylinck among others.
