The T20 World Cup begins on Sunday but before it starts there is enough time to take a look at the top player markets for the tournament. We’ll begin with the men who are likely to excite us over the next month in the batters.
One of the best things about this tournament is that almost all of the leading batters in the world game are all here. They should get wickets which allow them to showcase their talents and let us see plenty of fireworks.
Profile
When you get involved in a market like this in any tournament the first thing we have to do is work out where to target. There are 16 teams in the event, each with seven genuine batters in their team but we can’t be betting in a field of 112 so we need to apply some filters to have a more select number to go at.
The first of those filters comes in batting position. I don’t think you want anyone who bats lower than number four for their respective team although the higher up the player bats the better because there is some rain around in the early stages of this event so you don’t want to be on someone who doesn’t get a bat. The other thing you have to take is a player who is good at playing off the back foot and pace and bounce. The wickets here will be a lot different to last year so you want back foot players.

Market
The other thing you need to understand is the market you are betting on. Most of the bookmakers have their market covering the whole tournament which means that runs scored in round one count. That is why you’ll see Sri Lanka and West Indies players shorter than they might normally be, however should no team who plays in the first round make the semi-final then they will only have one extra match on the two sides who make the final so that early advantage might not be that significant.
Betting
I’ll go with two batters in this tournament with the first of them being Suryakumar Yadav, the Indian crackerjack who is just an excitement machine. Yadav is actually second on the run list for T20 internationals in 2022 with an average of 38.70 per innings and a strike rate of 176.81, both of which are pretty incredible. He’ll bat at four for India and if there were any doubts that he could do it in Australia he has already scored runs against Perth Scorchers in a warm up match. He looked in brilliant form against Australia and South Africa recently and in the weaker of the two Super 12 groups I think Yadav is a big price at 25/1.
The other player I like in this market is a man who was the leader in the ICC rankings for quite a while in Dawid Malan. We saw in the second T20 between Australia and England just what Malan can do and these pitches are perfect for his game. He can play off the back foot, he can use the pace to find gaps and he can smash the ball around the ground. I think The Hundred is a pretty decent form guide and he was the leading scorer in that competition by some way. Malan is the man who bats through the innings for England and with plenty of big hitters to score around him I think the England batter has every chance of top scoring in this tournament.
