The first round of the singles draws in the US Open is expected to conclude on another day of hot and humid conditions in New York on Tuesday when the other half of the fields to the ones which played on Monday get their competition underway.
We saw some of the bigger stars in the game on show on Monday and the good news for us watching on either at the tournament or via the streams is that they keep on coming throughout the course of Tuesday.
Arthur Ashe Stadium
There is an absolutely star-studded schedule on the main court on Tuesday which begins with the Spanish sensation Carlos Alcaraz on show. He has a tricky little challenge against Sebastian Baez to overcome. When they have settled their encounter Venus Williams will take to the main court once again for a clash with Alison Van Uytvanck to round off the day session. The night session begins with the men with Rafael Nadal starting his campaign for another US Open title. He meets Rinky Hijikata who will be experiencing the biggest evening of his career. The action on Ashe concludes with a cracker between Danielle Collins and two-time champion Naomi Osaka in what is a real dog of a draw for both ladies.
Louis Armstrong Stadium
Such is the quality on show on the main court, the overwhelming women’s world number one Iga Swiatek can only get a spot on the Louis Armstrong Court on Tuesday. The top seed begins her campaign against Jasmine Paolini before the former champion here Sloane Stephens takes to the court to meet Greet Minnen. The day session concludes with a men’s match and sees the exciting Jannik Sinner going up against Daniel Altmaier. Two matches form the night session and we begin with the defending champion Emma Raducanu who was controversially overlooked for the Arthur Ashe Stadium. She faces off with Alize Cornet. The night concludes with Diego Schwartzman going up against Jack Sock in what is likely to be a raucous atmosphere by the time they take to the court.
Grandstand
There is a really good schedule over on the Grandstand court on Tuesday as well and it begins with the popular home star Jessica Pegula going up against Victoria Golubic in what could be a real good game. Another popular American player follows them when John Isner takes on Federico Delbonis before the 2014 champion Marin Cilic rounds off the day session against Maximilian Marterer. One match comes along towards the evening and it is one where the ball might feel some pain as Amanda Anisimova takes on Yulia Putintseva.
Court 17
If you have a ground pass and can only get a seat on Court 17 with it you won’t be disappointed as the good tennis should make its way over to this part of Flushing Meadows as well. The order of play begins with Grigor Dimitrov taking on Steve Johnson before the Cincinnati finalist Petra Kvitova goes up against Erika Andreeva. The number four seed Paula Badosa is in action on this court too and she meets Lesia Tsurenko before the final match of the day sees two Americans close the show when Marcos Giron meets Frances Tiafoe.
Best of the Rest
The beauty of the Slams offering up streams on all the courts at majors these days is that we can see some decent players on show right around the grounds throughout the day. Some of those bigger names we can see include Garbine Muguruza, Andrey Rublev, Hubert Hurkacz and Victoria Azarenka who are all out on Court 5, Aryna Sabalenka, Dan Evans and Denis Shapovalov over on Court 10 as well as the likes of Jelena Ostapenko, Holger Rune, Karolina Pliskova, Belinda Bencic, Cameron Norrie, Cincinnati winner Borna Coric and the Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina.

Men’s Betting
One bet stands out to me over the course of Tuesday in the men’s draw and that comes in the form of Lorenzo Musetti who must have upset someone in a previous life because he has had some absolutely horrible draws in the Grand Slams so far in his career. He has had first round outings against Novak Djokovic, Alex de Minaur, Taylor Fritz and Stefanos Tsitsipas in his last six Grand Slams but things look a little easier for the Italian against a David Goffin whose form has fallen off a cliff to the extent that he still hasn’t beaten anyone in the top 50 in the world on a hard court in 2022.
Musetti probably hasn’t had the form he would have wanted coming in but he looked like he was going ok in Cincinnati before he ran into the eventual champion Borna Coric in the third round and earlier in the year in Rotterdam he got the better of Hubert Hurkacz so Musetti has at least shown something on a hard court this year. The faster conditions should suit his game and at odds against I’ll back him to beat a Goffin who has won just two of six matches since Wimbledon.
Women’s Betting
There are a number of 50:50 matches in the women’s draw on Tuesday as far as the odds are concerned but a lot of the reason for that is because one or both players in them are out of form and the other isn’t in spectacular form. One match where that isn’t the case is the one between Qinwen Zheng and Jelena Ostapenko and I think the Chinese rising star is the one to be with here after her run to the last eight in Toronto earlier in the month.
Ostapenko can be a little highly strung mentally and she can hit unforced errors at a right old rate when the mood takes her. I fancy the Latvian will need to play better than she has been doing though because Zheng is improving all the time. The Chinese player has won her opening match in all three Slams this year, where it took the winner to beat her in Paris and at Wimbledon while there was no shame in losing to Maria Sakkari in Melbourne. Since Doha in February, Ostapenko is only 3-8 from her 11 matches away from the grass and looks ripe for the taking here.
