The Vitality Blast continues on Sunday afternoon when seven fixtures will take place up and down the country on a day which could be pivotal in the race for the quarter finals, as we head towards the final quarter of the group phase.
Although the ODI is also on throughout the course of Sunday, Sky have enough channels that they are showing one of the Blast matches. The others will all be on the various county streams as they are throughout the season.
North Group
Three matches take place in the North Group and with the leaders Northamptonshire not on show on Sunday there is the chance for Lancashire to move back to the top of the table. They play host to a Nottinghamshire side who have just given up the highest score in Blast history last time out. The Birmingham Bears go into the day in third place in the table and they’ll be looking to build on that record score when they host a Derbyshire side who are putting up a great fist of qualifying themselves. The other match is the TV game which comes from Durham where both Durham and Leicestershire will be drinking in the last chance saloon.

South Group
The two form teams in the competition meet in the standout match on Sunday afternoon in the South Group as the leaders Surrey put their undefeated record on the line when they head to the Ageas Bowl to take on a Hampshire side who have won their last five matches. Somerset go into Sunday second in the table and they make the trip to Chelmsford to take on third placed Essex. The bottom four meet in the other two matches as Glamorgan welcome Sussex to Cardiff while Middlesex will take on Kent at Lord’s.
Betting
There is nothing I fancy in the TV game which is a little bit annoying after a 10/1 winner the other night but we have TV games throughout the week which we can focus on so it isn’t that bad. I’ll go with two on the card though where Kent to beat Middlesex is my first bet. I readily admit that Kent are out of the competition now after their defeat on Friday night but I don’t think they are just going to throw the towel in because they’ll want some confidence to take into their Championship relegation scrap and the One Day Cup. Middlesex might still have something to play for but the simple fact is they are not a good side and if their top three don’t go big then you sense they won’t. Kent were on top of Hampshire on Friday night until James Vince activated beast mode if they can keep the Middlesex top three quiet then they should have too much for a Middlesex team heavily flattered by their opening three wins. They have lost six on the spin since and I fancy this will be a seventh.
Somerset have already plundered the Essex bowling around Taunton this season and I see no reason why they won’t do the same at Chelmsford on Sunday afternoon but the Essex batting line up could hardly be going into that encounter in better form given that they have just smashed 240 against Sussex. That was only just enough but it shows how accessible the boundaries are at Chelmsford. The fact that it was only just enough shows that Somerset’s powerful top three should be able to get stuck in so I’m fully expecting to see more than 12.5 sixes in this one, something that has come in in three of the four matches here with the other one having 12. I like the over here.
