Vitality Blast 2024 – Sunday 9th June Matches Tips and Betting Preview

The Vitality Blast campaign continues on Sunday with another busy day of action up and down the country and we begin to head towards the halfway point of the group phase of the popular domestic T20 competition.

Six matches take place in all on Sunday but with the T20 World Cup going on as well there is no TV coverage of these games so if you want to watch them somewhere you’ll need to load up the live stream provided by the home team.

North Group

We have three matches from the North Group on Sunday afternoon and one of them is a bottom against top clash as Nottinghamshire go in search of a first win of the season at the fifth time of asking when they host a Lancashire outfit who have won three of their first four games in the competition. Yorkshire and Derbyshire have both picked up a couple of wins in the tournament and they meet at Headingley on Sunday while Leicestershire welcome Worcestershire to Grace Road in the other match in the North Group.

South Group

We have three matches in the South Group on Sunday and with the leaders Surrey not on show there is the chance for the chasing pack to close in and overtake them at the summit. Kent are their nearest challengers and they welcome an ordinary Middlesex side to Canterbury. Hampshire sit third in the table and they make the trip to Taunton to take on the champions Somerset while Sussex in third spot head to Bristol to go up against a Gloucestershire side who have faded again after a winning start to their competition.

Betting

Two bets jump out on the Sunday card with the first of them coming in the form of Lancashire to beat Nottinghamshire. I’m amazed Nottinghamshire are still being quoted at odds on and four pretty heavy beatings and they’re just not a fluke. Their batting order is nowhere near strong enough, especially with Alex Hales having only faced 53 balls all summer and looking in no form at all. Even Joe Clarke is only averaging 21.25 for the four matches. If they fail again, and with Lancashire offering up Luke Wood, Saqib Mahmood and Mitchell Stanley among other options with the new ball they easily could, then you wonder where Notts go with the bat. In four matches they have made 154, where they collapsed from 104-1, 127, 134/7 and 102. Those scores aren’t going to cut it. Lancashire are missing a bunch of players but there is still enough experience and quality in their side to see of a bang out of form Nottinghamshire outfit who just look a couple of class acts light.

The other bet I like is for Sussex to beat Gloucestershire. Sussex have already beaten Gloucestershire at Hove this season and if they can see off the new ball spell of David Payne they might find that the double is a comfortable proposition. Since they beat Gloucestershire, Sussex have gone to The Oval and absolutely battered a strong Surrey side with Daniel Hughes really standing up with the bat and Tymal Mills looking as good as ever with the ball. A number of other players are offering up individual efforts or cameos and Sussex look like going well. Gloucestershire’s batting concerns me a bit, especially against a decent attack. Hampshire skittled them for 124 here on Friday night and Sussex aren’t a great deal weaker with the ball. That Payne new ball spell is crucial but if Sussex come through it unscathed I would expect them to win this one.
