WDF World Darts Championship 2024 – Day 2 Tips and Betting Preview

The first round of the men’s and women’s draw at the WDF World Darts Championship continues inside the Lakeside Country Club on Saturday with a smattering of second round matches on the schedule as well.

We have two sessions of play on Saturday as the competition kicks into life after a decent Friday evening to get it underway. Some of the bigger names begin to take to the stage over the course of the day.

Afternoon Session

We begin in the first round of the men’s draw where Jordan Brooks will look to make progress when he goes up against the Japanese qualifier Jun Matsuda before we head to the women’s draw for the first time this week for the opening round meeting between Anca Zijlstra and Jitka Cisarova. When they are done, one of the better first round matches takes place as the veteran of the Lakeside, Mark Barilli, takes on a player many fancy for the title in the form of the Irish player Shane McGuirk. Two more matches round off the session with us going back to the women’s draw for the first of them when Wendy Harper plays Greta Tekauer before Patrik Kovacs faces Bjorn Lejon to round off the session.

Evening Session

The evening begins with one of the better first round matches in the men’s draw as Matthew Edgar will put the commentary microphone down to look to make progress when he faces Jarno Bottenberg before we have another women’s match as Amanda Loch takes on Kirsi Viinikainen. We then have the first second round match of the week where the number one seed Danny Porter looks to make it through at the expense of Francois Schweyen, who was solid enough in overcoming Michael Cassar on Friday night. Two more matches round off the evening session with the former finalist Kirsty Hutchinson meeting Veronika Ihasz in the women’s draw before Martyn Turner is in second round action against Brian Raman.

Betting

I am conscious of not getting too involved in this tournament in the early stages because the best of three format is a massive leveller and there are so many debutants doing the rounds that we don’t know exactly how they will perform. In the second round I was hoping to get a bit of a price on Brian Raman to beat Martyn Turner but no joy there sadly so my only bet of the day will come in the opening match of the evening session where I like Jarno Bottenberg to beat Matthew Edgar.

Bottenberg is capable of some really good numbers and unlike Edgar he has played in this tournament before. To be fair to Edgar, he made the final of the Welsh Open earlier in the year which is a decent effort but his averages haven’t been anything to write home about. I mentioned in my outright preview that Bottenberg won the Dutch Open which will serve him well in this short sprint. You don’t win that tournament with the thousands of entries it gets if you can’t throw a dart and with him more familiar to surroundings here allowing him to get a run on Edgar, I think the Dutchman is a worthy bet in this one.

Tips

Back J.Bottenberg to beat M.Edgar for a 3/10 stake at 1.85 with Coral
