West Indies Tri-Series
The final match of the Tri-Series between Australia, West Indies and South Africa will see the second finalist in the tournament confirmed. Australia are already in the final of the series and on Friday the West Indies and South Africa will meet for the third time in the tournament, and the first in Barbados, to decide who will join them. The winner will go through.
West Indies
The West Indies have been much more competitive in this tournament than many expected them to be going into it. They have already beaten both Australia and South Africa and one more win will see them into the final. They have won matches with the bat and with the ball and that is probably the biggest surprise.
West Indies were unlucky not to beat Australia here on Tuesday but it might be to their advantage that they have played a full game on the ground whereas South Africa only had one over before their match with Australia was rained off.
South Africa
This is the first real chance that South Africa have had to make it into the final. They would have made it had they beaten Australia in their other match here in Barbados but they were never given the chance due to the rain but having thrashed the West Indies in St Kitts they will come into this match confident.
South Africa’s main batsmen have all got runs as the tournament has gone along and with a bowling attack that is effective in most conditions they go into this match in good shape as long as the lack of playing time in Barbados doesn’t go against them.
Team News
West Indies could be without their captain Jason Holder in this match. He picked up a hamstring injury in the last match and is a doubt for this game. West Indies have already declared that Jonathan Carter will replace Holder if he isn’t fit which isn’t usually the actions of a group confident they will be unchanged.
South Africa are expected to bring Morne Morkel in for his tournament debut. He is expected to come in for one of the spinners but with Imran Tahir taking seven wickets last time these two met it isn’t going to be him who makes way.
Kensington Oval
We saw a really good batting deck in the last game here and that is exactly what I expect to see in this match too. There have now been 31 completed ODIs on this ground and the West Indies’ record here is now 11 wins and 15 defeats from 26 matches. South Africa have won all three matches they have played here so history might well be on the side of the tourists going into this one.
Betting
I’ve a feeling South Africa will win this match although given their record of choking in important matches I can’t say I’m in any rush to stake any money on that being the case but that is ok because there is another bet that I like in this one.
That comes in the form of the sixes. Both batting line ups are showing really good form and there isn’t really anything in the wicket to assist the bowlers of either side. Much has been made of the size of the boundaries at the Kensington Oval but they’re not that big in comparison to the likes of Providence where this tournament first visited.
West Indies ploughed half a dozen sixes against the Australians here on Tuesday despite being three down quite early and having to rebuild. South Africa just took the West Indies for seven sixes in their last meeting so both are clearing the ropes nicely.
We’re yet to see a real AB de Villiers masterclass in this series but we all remember what he did in last year’s World Cup against the West Indies so all things being equal I think we have more than enough potential to see at least 10 sixes here if not a few more.
