Wimbledon 2023 – Men’s Semi-Finals Tips and Betting Preview

We have had the women’s semi-finals at Wimbledon and on Friday the men play their way down to the final on what looks like being a monster afternoon of tennis, potentially under the roof on Centre Court.

We have the top three in the world rankings and a player who has been touted for big things taking to the iconic court on Friday and while the women’s semi-finals were very good, the men are asset to crank it up a notch.

Jannik Sinner vs Novak Djokovic

The opening semi-final on Friday is a repeat of a quarter final from last year where the Italian ace Jannik Sinner goes up against the defending champion Novak Djokovic, the man who has not lost on this court for more than 10 years.

Sinner led that quarter final by two sets last year before he struggled to get over the line and when he left the door open Djokovic powered right through it. You sense that match came too soon for the Italian both in terms of his own mentality at Grand Slam level as well as it being after a couple of epic contests. He doesn’t have the fatigue of what has gone before to worry about here because he has breezed through the draw. Critics would suggest he had a kind draw and with Quinten Halys at 75 his highest ranked opponent that would be true but we know Sinner is a breakout star in waiting. Djokovic hasn’t been as convincing in this tournament as he might have expected to be. He was taken to a tiebreak in each of the first three rounds and then Hubert Hurkacz and Andrey Rublev took sets off him so that will give Sinner further encouragement. I don’t see Sinner winning this but his all-action, aggressive style will certainly keep the Serb honest. Sinner has a first serve which is getting bigger all the time and he backs it up with heavy artillery. I think he’ll hang around with Djokovic long enough for a 35.5 game line to be covered, a line which has been covered in the last two Djokovic matches.

Carlos Alcaraz vs Daniil Medvedev

It takes a lot to shift Novak Djokovic from the primetime slot at Wimbledon but that goes to show what is expected in the second semi-final when the world number one Carlos Alcaraz meets Daniil Medvedev in a potential classic clash.

This is a repeat of the final from Indian Wells earlier in the year when Alcaraz blitzed his way to the title. Their other meeting came here two years ago when Medvedev dropped just seven games in a straight sets win but the Spaniard was just establishing himself in the senior game then. This will be very different to that match and it will probably be different to their meeting in Indian Wells too. Alcaraz was incredible that week but he isn’t quite completely sure of himself on this surface whereas Medvedev brings plenty of ball striking to the party, something which Alcaraz struggled with against both Nicolas Jarry and Matteo Berrettini earlier in the competition. I think Alcaraz is a worthy favourite because his athletic ability gets him out of so much trouble but I expect Medvedev to stay close both in sets and the match score so the 4.5 games he is getting as a head start feels a little on the high side. Both men will leave it all out there here but assuming the match is under a roof taking variable conditions out of play, Medvedev should have the confidence to hit through his man and run him close if not beat him.
