World Championship Snooker 2023 – Day 17 Tips and Betting Preview

It is the final day of the World Championship inside the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield on Monday and by the end of the two sessions that remain we will know who has written themselves into history by winning this prestigious event.

Two men will battle it out over a possible 18 remaining frames across two sessions of action on Monday each looking to make it to 18 first and lift the famous trophy and pocket the cheque for £500,000 which comes with it.

Day 16 Recap

The first two sessions of what is becoming a very enjoyable final are in the book and I think it is fair to say that both Luca Brecel and Mark Selby will be content with their position overnight. Brecel opened up a 6-2 lead in the afternoon session which Selby then cut to 9-8 courtesy of a magnificent 147 break in the penultimate frame of the evening. From where he was after the first session Selby will be delighted to be within one but when the dust settles Luca will be happy that it is he who takes a lead into the second day of this finale.

In Play Betting

We’re already on Mark Selby to win this final courtesy of an outright bet before a ball was hit in this tournament and in this final we are also on over 4.5 centuries. There were two on the opening day so we are on track for that as well but there is still one more that I am happy to be on having seen how the first day of this final has panned out. I was wondering whether Luca Brecel would be overawed but he certainly isn’t and I think we are in for something special on Monday.

The frame line is 32.5 for this final which in numeric terms means we need this final to be 18-15 or closer either way. For Selby to win 18-14 and bust the over he would need to win 10-5 while Brecel would need to win 9-6. Both could happen but I don’t see it because they have both approached the final with real intent. There will be the odd frame or two where Brecel and his aggressive approach will leave him exposed when he misses but the same amount of frames where he gets in and scores will balance that out. I just don’t see either folding in this final and their opposing styles make this a really enticing prospect. We haven’t had a truly close final for a while but we should get it on Monday.
