WST Classic Snooker 2023 – Day 6 Tips and Betting Preview

It is the penultimate day of action at the WST Classic on Tuesday when the third round of the tournament concludes inside the Morningside Arena in Leicester and the entire last 16 is played out in the competition.

That means by the end of the day we will know the identity of the eight players who will head through to the final day of the tournament on Wednesday when our champion will be found on a bumper day of snooker.

Morning Session

We begin with two sets of matches in the morning session which come from the third round of the tournament. There is a real high profile match on the main table to begin with as Judd Trump continues his quest to not just win this tournament but qualify for the Tour Championship when he meets Jimmy White. At the same time, Hossein Vafaei will meet Scott Donaldson while two Chinese layers clash when Si Jiahui goes up against Pang Junxu. The other match sees Lyu Haotian facing Oliver Lines.

The second part of the morning sees a raft of big names taking to the table. Mark Allen is probably the pick of those and the player of the season has an awkward test against Noppon Saengkham to overcome. Stuart Bingham is making a welcome return to form this week and he’ll need to play well when he takes on Martin Gould. Ali Carter has been in fantastic form this season too. He goes up against Xu Si while the other match sees Anthony Hamilton taking on James Cahill.

Afternoon Session

The third round concludes and the last 16 begins in the afternoon session. The third round ends in the first set of matches in the session with John Higgins one of the big names on show. He has a clash with Jamie Clarke to navigate while Kyren Wilson will look to set up a return to the baize in the evening when he meets Tian Pengfei. Dave Gilbert will be looking to make progress to the last 16 when he takes on Robbie Williams while Daniel Wells has a free shot at a Mark Selby who will all but secure his Tour Championship place with a win in that match.

The last 16 begins in the second part of the afternoon but we only have two matches confirmed so far. They see David Grace going up against Gary Wilson while two youngsters also meet for a place in the quarter final when Lukas Kleckers takes on Jackson Page. We will also see the winner of the match between Judd Trump and Jimmy White meeting either Si Jiahui or Pang Junxu while either Hossein Vafaei or Scott Donaldson will take on one of Lyu Haotian or Oliver Lines.

Evening Session

The last four matches in the last 16 will be played in the evening session where the winner of Mark Allen and Noppon Saengkham will take on either Stuart Bingham or Martin Gould. Ali Carter or Xu Si will go up against either Anthony Hamilton or James Cahill while one of John Higgins or Jamie Clarke will take on Kyren Wilson or Tian Pengfei. The other match will see either Dave Gilbert or Robbie Williams facing one of Mark Selby or Daniel Wells for a place in the quarter final.

Betting

We don’t have a lot of matches to go on with half of the schedule for the day still to be determined but of the confirmed games we do have there is one bet that I like the look of. Stuart Bingham has made it through to the third round but I’m still not convinced by him. You would have expected him to beat Ng On Yee in the opening game and while his win over Matthew Stevens was a better one he was clearly second best for the first two-thirds of that match.

Martin Gould hasn’t pulled up too many trees this season but he is a player who tends to get on a run of wins and maintains them and if he gets the chances that Bingham offered up to Matthew Stevens then I would imagine he will make the former world champion pay the price. Gould went well in lockdown and this setup clearly helps his focus and concentration. I think he’s a big price in what isn’t much more than an even battle regardless of the conditions.
