Wuhan Open Snooker 2024 – Day 3 Tips and Betting Preview

The entire last 32 will be played out at the Wuhan Open on Tuesday when two sessions of play will halve the number of players remaining in the tournament and leave us with 16 to move forward for the rest of the event with.

In the main the big names who made it to Wuhan are still in the tournament which means we are getting closer to some marquee matches later in the week along with the few that we have over the course of Tuesday.

Afternoon Session

The world champion Kyren Wilson will headline the card in the afternoon Chinese time, morning session in the UK. He will go up against the home player Xiao Guodong on the main table with the multiple ranking event winner Shaun Murphy competing over on table two when he takes on the dangerous Noppon Saengkham. Barry Hawkins is one of the other top 16 players on show in this session. He meets Stan Moody while Ali Carter goes up against Marco Fu in a really tasty looking contest. Jackson Page will look to follow up his win over Neil Robertson in the first round when he takes on Long Zehuang for a place in the last 16 while Duane Jones will face off against another home player in Pang Junxu. Wu Yize showed good form in the previous round and the English Open finalist will take on Jamie Clarke with the other match seeing Elliot Slessor facing Ben Woollaston.

Evening Session

The defending champion and world number one Judd Trump will command the majority of the attention in the evening session when he faces Anthony McGill although the home crowds could be forgiven for not caring about that match as their hero Ding Junhui will also be competing at this point in proceedings. He meets fellow Chinese player Yuan Sijun. John Higgins is one of three other top 16 players on show in the second session. He faces Zak Suerty while Zhang Anda has a clash with Hossein Vafaei to get the better of. Jak Jones meets Jack Lisowski in a really good match for the outside tables. The other three matches see the former Shootout champion Chris Wakelin meeting David Lilley, Mark Joyce playing Robbie Williams and Si Jiahui going up against Martin O’Donnell.

Betting

I wouldn’t be massively surprised if there are a few upsets on Tuesday because there are some matches which feel a little closer than the odds suggest but at the same time we are in one of the spells of the season where the snooker circuit is in full swing so the big names are fully in tune which makes it harder for the lower ranked players to come through over this distance with the interval and everything else that comes with it.

I do like one bet though and that comes in the form of Elliot Slessor who is quietly having a decent season away from the main spotlight. He made the last 16 of the Saudi Masters which was a decent effort because that winning three matches, two of which were against Zhou Yuelong and Ali Carter. He then reached the last eight of the British Open just prior to this tournament where he had a win over Kyren Wilson before the finalist John Higgins got him in the quarter final. He now meets Ben Woollaston who had a good win over Gary Wilson on Monday but Wilson hasn’t got going at all this season. Woollaston won an International Championship qualifier last week but it was pulled off early so there was no fluency to it and although he beat Wilson he didn’t make a 60 break. I think you can pick more holes in the Woollaston form than the Slessor form so I like the Geordie here.

Tips

Back E.Slessor to beat B.Woollaston for a 3/10 stake at 1.91 with William Hill
