The last set of Premier League matches prior to Christmas begins with the Friday Night Football which should be an absolute belter as Arsenal host Liverpool in the match of the weekend at the Emirates Stadium.
I think it is fair to say both sides have lost their hopes of winning the title this season but both will be aiming to secure a Champions League spot for the next campaign and this feels like an important match in that quest.
Arsenal
The Gunners snapped a run of three matches without a win when they edged out Newcastle last weekend and they will be looking to build on that to get a heavy period of action underway with a positive beginning. The win over Newcastle means that only Manchester United have left the Emirates with a point this season. They took all three recently.
Arsenal have hit the skids a little as far as their attacking play is concerned which would be a worry. Since thrashing Huddersfield 5-0 they have only registered three goals in four matches and when you have a defence which can be as flaky as theirs can be that is not ideal. They need to focus on what they do best here.
Liverpool
Liverpool ended a bit of a sticky spell of their own last weekend. Having picked up what they would describe as disappointing home draws they went to Bournemouth and coasted to victory, something that is becoming a norm for them on the road this season. They are scoring goals on their travels for fun at the minute.
They have now scored 16 goals in their last four matches away from Anfield in the Premier League and will not need reminding that they scored four at the Emirates last season. While their attacking statistics are positive you always fear for their defence even allowing for the successive clean sheets they carry into this match.
Team News
Arsenal will be without Olivier Giroud which will be a blow because he has a decent record against Liverpool. He has a hamstring injury. Francis Coquelin and Shkodran Mustafi are both expected to be fit.
Emre Can is back from suspension for Jurgen Klopp’s side but they may have to do without Daniel Sturridge and Joel Matip. Sturridge may struggle to get into this side anyway.

Betting
I like over 3 goals here. It may be an obvious play but sometimes the obvious is the right bet. Both these sides have a significant strength in attacking areas rather than in defensive ones and I see no reason why either side are going to sit back and be shot at here.
I expect an element of meeting fire with fire in this one so the goals looks the natural play. Arsenal were taken apart at Anfield earlier in the season and when the two met here last year they played out a cracking 4-3. Goals should come naturally in this one.
