2017-18 Premier League – Sunday 20th August Matches Betting Preview

The second weekend of the Premier League season continues on Sunday afternoon with two more matches as the campaign continues. The traditional Super Sunday serves up a couple of interesting battles with the first being between two promoted sides and the other a clash of last season’s top two.

Huddersfield Town vs Newcastle United

The opening match of the day is a fixture which was a Championship match last season. Huddersfield will be looking to build on their fantastic win at Crystal Palace last week while Newcastle will look to bounce back from their defeat to Spurs on the opening weekend.

When I look at the prices for this match I have to admit I’m surprised at them. There appears to have been a bit of an overreaction to last week where although Huddersfield were brilliant I do believe they caught Palace at the right time and we certainly shouldn’t judge a promoted side like Newcastle against a truly class act like Tottenham. That would be unfair.

I always thought there would be goals in this game coming so early in the season. Both will see it as a match they believe they can win, and rightly so, and that often leads to an open encounter which I think we will get. I can’t ignore the price on Newcastle, especially with all the draw cover so it is over 2.5 goals and Newcastle on the Asian lines for me.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

Wembley Stadium hosts a Tottenham Premier League match for the first time and what a match it is set to host as the champions Chelsea are in town. Both sides had differing results last week with Tottenham beating Newcastle while Chelsea lost at home to Burnley.

I see this as a tricky match to bet on for a couple of reasons. Tottenham have this lingering hoodoo about playing at Wembley and I would need to see them look more comfortable there before I can back them but clearly all is not well at the Chelsea inn so I can’t be backing them either. This is one more to sit back and enjoy than risk the unknowns with a bet.
