It is quarter final day at the Aegon Championships on Friday with four matches on Centre Court at the Queens Club in London and after it we will know the four men doing battle for the title over the weekend. After the shocks of the opening couple of days we are left with a line up few expected but there should be some competitive action in there.
Day 4 Recap
The big names all made it through unscathed on Thursday. Indeed the four favourites all won and only one of them dropped a set. That was Sam Querrey but he still came through in three sets against Jordan Thompson. Marin Cilic, Daniil Medvedev and Feliciano Lopez were the other winners on the day.
We were winners too as our only bet on the afternoon sailed in when Medvedev beat Thanasi Kokkinakis 6-2 6-2 in a thoroughly one-sided contest to top up our profits for the week.

Sam Querrey vs Gilles Muller
The opening quarter final was meant to be Andy Murray against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga but we have former champion Sam Querrey taking on Gilles Muller instead. These two have met twice before with Querrey winning both times but they were almost 10 years ago and scarcely relevant now.
Muller is absolutely buzzing at the minute. He won in Holland last week and has sailed into this quarter final but Querrey will be a tougher test. He beat Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon last year and his big serve and heavy forehand will make him dangerous. Both men serve very well so I’m not expecting to see many breaks here. I wouldn’t be surprised if this ends 7-6 7-6 to someone but it could easily go three sets so I like over 25.5 games in this one.
Marin Cilic vs Donald Young
Another former champion is in action in the second quarter final of the day when Marin Cilic takes on Donald Young. Both men have breezed through so far and played some good tennis in doing so. Cilic leads their head to head 2-0 but they’ve not met since 2015.
I’m on the Croat outright this weekend and I’m starting to get confident about my investment. He’s plenty short enough here but the way he is playing I expect him to win. I’ll sit holding my outright ticket though rather than get involved in this match.
Grigor Dimitrov vs Daniil Medvedev
The third former champion left in the draw takes part in this match as Grigor Dimitrov faces Daniil Medvedev for a place in the semi-final. This is the first meeting between the two and possibly the most intriguing match of the day.
Both men have had an easy win this week and both have had a match where they have had to work hard to progress but they both look to be hitting the ball well. If the Russian serves well he could take this down but the all-round game of Dimitrov is never easy to repel. I’ll sit and watch and enjoy this without a bet.
Tomas Berdych vs Feliciano Lopez
The last of the quarter finals features the man many forget made the Wimbledon final seven years ago in Tomas Berdych. He takes on the former finalist here in Feliciano Lopez for the second time in a week after they met in Stuttgart last week. Lopez won that match to take an 8-7 lead in their career meetings but he leads 3-0 in their grass court battles.
I think the Spaniard will win here too. Berdych has already faced a left hander this week in Denis Shapovalov and he struggled to overcome him which isn’t good because Lopez’s game is more rounded and fine-tuned than that of the Canadian. You would have to think there is a likelihood of a tiebreak or two here though. Their first set last week went the distance so while I’m happy to back Lopez to win I’ll go with over 24.5 games too.
