The German Masters qualifying continues in Barnsley on Wednesday as more first round matches take place. Tuesday was a busy day of action and Wednesday will be no different as three more sessions of play takes place with those on show all battling over the best of nine frames to move to within one win of qualifying for Berlin.
Morning Session
One of the ties of the round will be on the live streamed tables in this session as Alan McManus takes on Dominic Dale in a juicy encounter. Graeme Dott and Akani Songsermsawad meet in the other live game.
On the outside tables we have five matches taking place. Jack Lisowski plays local lad David Grace while Alex Borg meets Sydney Wilson in a big chance for both to do their ranking no harm. Christopher Keogan has the same opportunity when he faces the amateur Brandon Sargeant while Ben Woollaston meets Zak Surety and Scott Donaldson plays Boonyarit Kaettikun.
Afternoon Session
The main tables in this session will be filled by some good matches. Northern Ireland Open winner Mark King facing Rhys Clark on one of them and Shaun Murphy faces Daniel Wells on the other.
Elsewhere we have Kyren Wilson takes on Xiao Guodong in an appealing match while Jamie Carrett plays Andrew Higginson. Michael Holt and James Wattana do battle as do Yan Bingtao and Sam Baird. There are also matches between Barry Hawkins and Ian Burns as well as Anthony McGill and Anthony Hamilton.
Evening Session
All eyes will be on the main man Ronnie O’Sullivan in this session to see how he deals with defeat in the UK Championship final. He takes on Darryl Hill while the other main table sees Luca Brecel going up against the Shootout champion Robin Hull.
Away from the spotlight Matthew Stevens plays Chris Wakelin, Gary Wilson faces Rod Lawler, Peter Lines, conqueror of Neil Robertson in York, meets Yu Delu while Eden Sharav meets Igor Figueiredo. There is an all-Chinese battle between Zhang Anda and Tian Pengfei and Thepchaiya Un-Nooh plays Joe Swail.
Betting
As with Tuesday’s action this card is all about picking and choosing which is tougher than it was on Tuesday I have to say. I was extremely tempted by the even money on Jack Lisowski but I would have liked his form to be a little better before pulling the trigger so instead I will take a couple in the evening.
Gary Wilson is enjoying a solid enough season and he’ll be looking to build on that when he goes up against Rod Lawler on Wednesday night. We know what we’re going to get from Lawler. He will be tight and nuggety but Wilson has a bit of extra scoring power but he can mix it in the scrappy frames. Wilson’s ranking is going in an upward curve and a win here will boost it further.
Peter Lines made big headlines when he dumped Neil Robertson out of the UK Championship two weeks ago but I think his life in the German Masters will be short lived. He faces Yu Delu who has taken care of Ding Junhui and Stuart Bingham in the last two events. Yu isn’t the best player going around but he regularly does enough to make it to main tournaments and he can start off another run with a win here.
