2017 Grand Slam of Darts – Day 7 Betting Preview

We are down to the last eight of the Grand Slam of Darts and on a tasty looking Friday night at the Civic Hall in Wolverhampton the two matches in the bottom half of the draw will be played out.

We are up to the best of 31 legs from here on in so the quality should go up again, as should the drama, intensity and competitiveness. The four men on show on Friday are of the highest quality so we look set for a cracking contest.

Glen Durrant vs Peter Wright

The opening quarter final is a repeat of one of the group matches when the BDO world champion Glen Durrant takes on one of the best the PDC have to offer in the form of the UK Open champion Peter Wright.

Durrant won their group meeting 5-2 and played some lovely darts and he has barely looked back since then. Wright is slowly growing into this tournament so everything is set up for a really tasty encounter. We know that Durrant does not fear his rival here which should make for great viewing.

I really think we are in for a close contest here. Both are relentless scorers and they are both decent enough finishers. There will be breaks of throw as we go along but I don’t envisage too many of them so over 26.5 legs looks a fairly obvious bet to me.

Another bet that I really like the look of is Glen Durrant to hit more than 7.5 180s. He has just hit seven 180s in his win over Dave Chisnall so one more in a match which is half the distance again looks a fair play. Durrant is a heavy 180 scorer. We’ve seen his wonderful grouping in this tournament and eight of them does the job for me here. We’ll get them.

Mensur Suljovic vs Gary Anderson

The other quarter final on Friday night sees the former world champion Gary Anderson taking on a man who is getting better all the time in Mensur Suljovic. Suljovic has three long format wins over Anderson including two in the Champions League in September. Indeed the two times Anderson has beaten him have been in deciding eleventh legs.

There is clearly something about facing Suljovic that Anderson does not like. Whether it is a struggle for rhythm or just the unpredictability of the Austrian there is something in the mind of the Scot. I actually think he will win this but only in a tight contest.

Both men are playing great darts right now. Both averaged well over 100 in their previous match and that was a great effort for Suljovic given that he had to cope with the visible struggles of Berry van Peer. This should be an absolute corker and over 26.5 legs looks the way to approach it. That means we need 16-11 either way which looks about right.
