2017 NFL – Dallas Cowboys at Arizona Cardinals Betting Preview

The third week of the NFL season concludes as ever with the Monday Night Football which this week sends the ESPN crew to the desert as the Arizona Cardinals host the Dallas Cowboys in an all-NFC showdown.

The two teams go into the match with 1-1 records for the season so whoever comes out on top here will go to .666 for the campaign and will have a platform to launch a successful term from.

Arizona Cardinals

The Cardinals lost their opening match against the Detroit Lions, although that doesn’t necessarily look a bad result right now, but they got going for the season when they edged out a weak Indianapolis Colts side last week. They go in search of back to back wins which would have them level with the Rams on 2-1 for the year.

By and large their defence is the foundation on what their best play is built on, especially given that star running back David Johnson is out for the foreseeable future. All eyes will be on quarterback Carson Palmer. Doubters are beginning to think his age is catching up with him. It is up to him to dispel that notion.

Dallas Cowboys

At the end of the first week of the season Dallas Cowboys were being talked up as Super Bowl contenders once again with the emphatic and ruthless way that they saw off the New York Giants. That talk quietened down last week when they were exposed and well beaten by the Denver Broncos.

It was defensively that Dallas really struggled last week and in truth that was a surprise because the Denver offense is nothing special. They face an experienced gun slinger in this match so they need to find a way to contain him. The other big issue in Denver was the lack of a running game. Ezekiel Elliott received a lot of criticism for that. It will be interest to see how he reacts here.

Betting

I don’t think I want to trust either of these two sides if I am honest. I’ve a sneaky feeling that with their defence the Arizona Cardinals can get this one done but they haven’t completely impressed me and as such don’t really tempt me.

There is a player market that I like though which comes in the form of the Cardinals receiver JJ Nelson. His receiving line is just 49.5 yards which looks a little low to me given how weak the Dallas secondary is.

I don’t see Palmer being under much pressure and if Trevor Siemian can find his receivers at will against this Dallas side the veteran QB certainly can. Nelson has already caught 10 passes this season for 163 yards so on that average we only need him to catch three passes. I would imagine he sees more action than that so the speedster should go beyond 50 yards here.
