2017 PDC World Darts Championship – Third Quarter Betting Preview

We’ve covered the first two quarters of the PDC World Darts Championship draw and with the start of the event getting ever closer it is time to go through the final two segments. The third quarter is the focus of this preview and it will be full of attention as it is the part of the draw which houses the defending champion Gary Anderson.

Anderson aside this looks quite an open draw so if the champ gets beat it will be interesting to see how this one plays out.

The Draw

Gary Anderson v Mark Frost

John Henderson v Andrew Gilding

Benito van de Pas v Tengku Hadzali Shah/Masumi Chino

Terry Jenkins v Josh Payne

Dave Chisnall v Rowby John Rodriguez

Justin Pipe v Chris Dobey

Jelle Klaasen v Jeffrey de Graaf

Brendan Dolan v Christian Kist

Seeds

As you would expect Gary Anderson is the main seed in the quarter but with Dave Chisnall around we can expect the scoring to be decent at all times. Benito van de Pas and Jelle Klaasen are the other top 16 ranked players in this part of the draw.

There is an interesting mixture of players among the seeds. Justin Pipe’s slow throw might unsettle a couple of players and the same goes for Brendan Dolan too. John Henderson and Terry Jenkins are likely to power in the 180s.

Qualifiers

I think the qualifiers could be what makes this section so interesting. Christian Kist is already a world champion and he isn’t going to give anyone an easy game and we saw that Chris Dobey has to offer at the Grand Slam last month.

Jeffrey de Graaf, Josh Payne and Rowby John Rodriguez are three of the best young talents in the game and they will be out to showcase that here. Andrew Gilding and Mark Frost are good on their day too.

Betting

I’ve already backed Jelle Klaasen outright in the tournament and I think he will come through the bottom half of the quarter and indeed win the quarter so I don’t really need to go in again.

I was nearly tempted by Terry Jenkins as a bit of a saver from the top half of the draw and at 28/1 I wouldn’t put anyone off but he doesn’t quite appear to be on top of his game and you would think he would need to be that to come through a section of this quality. It is a no bet for me.
