2017 Scottish Open Golf – Final Round Betting Preview

The final round of the Scottish Open will take place on Sunday with a number of players looking to get the ultimate boost to their confidence ahead of the third major of the year next week.

After a moving day where the weather won on Saturday we have a pretty bunched leaderboard although three men managed to steal a march on the field to lead the rest by two heading into the final round.

Saturday Recap

Callum Shinkwin, Ian Poulter and Andrew Dodt will go into the final round sharing the lead on nine under par with Andy Sullivan two back on seven under. Paul Dunne, Johan Carlsson and Ryan Fox make up a trio on six under ahead of a huge group of players on five under that includes Rickie Fowler, Matt Kuchar, Graeme McDowell, Andrew Johnston and our outright bet Anthony Wall.

It was yet another annoying day betting wise on Saturday when David Horsey bogeyed the last two to tie with Mikko Ilonen. Hopefully we can claim some losses back on Sunday with some match bets while we have Wall well in with a chance of an outright place at 200/1 and Dunne leading the Irish contingent which can hopefully return a few quid too.

Final Round

The leaderboard is pretty bunched heading into the final round and any one of about 15 players can still win this thing. There is some value around but they all need the leaders to falter and with there being three of them that might be asking a lot. I’ll take my chances with Wall and head for the two balls.

Sunday 2 balls

As ever each of the groups on the golf course have been priced up ahead of this final round with Ian Poulter and Andrew Dodt out in the last group at 15.35 BST. The pairing of Paul Dunne and Graeme McDowell are probably going to get plenty of following as is the Andrew Johnston and Rafa Cabrera Bello one and that pairing is one of two I’m betting in.

Andrew Johnston vs Rafa Cabrera Bello

Match tees off at 14.45 BST

Both Andrew Johnston and Rafa Cabrera Bello will feel they still have a chance of winning this tournament but they will need to shoot good rounds if that is to happen given they begin four off the lead.

The Spaniard is notoriously weak on Sunday’s which has to be a concern for his chances in this tournament. Beef Johnston tends to get better as a week goes on and his strong finish in The Open last year shows that he is comfortable in Scottish conditions no matter what the wind does. At solid odds against the Englishman has to be the call here.

Anthony Wall vs Richard Bland

Match tees off at 14.55 BST

Anthony Wall is high up on a links leaderboard for the second weekend in a row and I fancy he can push on this week. Richard Bland had a chance to win in Germany a few weeks ago but couldn’t get it done and that continues a recent trend of struggling on Sundays.

Wall has shot under par for every round this week and one more could well be enough to land this two ball. Bland doesn’t convince at all on Sundays and with Wall being comfortable in Scotland and on the links no matter how tough the conditions get I have to be with him to prevail out of these two.
