2018-19 Premier League – Arsenal vs Leicester City Betting Preview

The Premier League weekend concludes with the Monday Night Football which sees two former winners of the division going at it when Arsenal play host to Leicester City at the Emirates Stadium in London.

After a disastrous first two matches Arsenal have themselves in a nice position in the Premier League table heading into this one while Leicester slipped into the bottom half of the table on Sunday but can go eighth with a win here.

Arsenal

The Gunners were well beaten in their opening two matches of the campaign but they are now on a run of six successive wins in the Premier League and will hope that the international break has not disrupted their form. Unai Emery has said in the lead up to this game that his side must improve but whether he means that or he is just saying it to avoid complacency remains to be seen.

I would imagine the area the Spaniard wants his side to improve in is the defensive ones. They have kept a few clean sheets in recent times but the lack of goals against has masked how they have defended. Their goalkeeper has been called upon to make a number of saves and while that is what he is there for, it is never a good thing when a top side relies on its stopper so often.

Leicester City

I would imagine that Leicester City have been itching for this match to come around after losing their final game prior to the international break. They probably didn’t deserve to be beaten in that match by Everton but ran into a wonder goal from Gylfi Sigurdsson and that was that. Assuming they are chomping at the bit for this match we can expect a decent performance out of them.

Leicester have a pair of wins and a pair of losses on the road this season. Their wins were nothing to write home about at Newcastle and Southampton, two of the poorer sides in the division, but we saw them take the game to Manchester United and dominate them on the opening night of the season and a repeat of that display would make them extremely competitive in this contest.

Team News

Petr Cech, Mesut Ozil and Ainsley Maitland-Niles are all fit from injuries and could start this game while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is believed to be in contention despite missing a match during the international break. Sokratis Papastathopoulos picked up an ankle injury playing for Greece and is a huge doubt.

Leicester will be without their captain Wes Morgan as he is serving his suspension having been sent off against Everton last time out. Demarai Gray is still absent with the nasty injury he picked up in the Carabao Cup recently.

Arsenal really look like they are slipping into a groove in attacking areas and with Mesut Ozil back to pull the strings their improvement in that department might continue. I don’t think Leicester will necessarily mind Arsenal coming at them. While they are going to be difficult to contain, the Foxes are set up to be devastating on the counter attack.

With that in mind I think we are going to see a number of goals here. I’m expecting plenty of chances so unless either keeper has a worldy of a game the scoreboard should be updated quite regularly. We’ve seen these Monday night games be high scoring already this season and I fancy this one is going to follow that lead.
