2018 ATP Miami Open Tennis – Day 6 Betting Preview

The third round of the ATP Miami Open ends on Monday when the top half of the draw gets played down to the last 16 stage across the complex at Crandon Park. This is the half of the draw that Roger Federer was in but his exit has opened it right up.

There is no Federer but we do have some of the best youngsters in the game and one or two marquee players on what still should be a decent day in Miami as the tournament begins to crank up towards the business end.

Day 5 Recap

The big match of the day on Sunday saw Juan Martin del Potro power past Kei Nishikori in two largely one-sided sets but as has been the case with this tournament so far we have lost another big name as Grigor Dimitrov was smashed out of the competition. Our outright pick Hyeon Chung was one of a number of comfortable winners around the grounds on Sunday.

It was an excellent day for us betting wise with our only selection, Jeremy Chardy, beating the aforementioned Dimitrov in straight sets to take our record for the week to six winners from just seven bets, this one at a very tasty 5/2 as well.

Stadium Court

There are three matches on the Stadium Court on Monday with an American opening the show when Steve Johnson takes on Pablo Carreno Busta. We then have a women’s match before arguably the match of the day between the controversial Nick Kyrgios and the fiery Fabio Fognini. The final match on this court comes in the night session when Alexander Zverev goes up against David Ferrer.

Grandstand

The man who shocked the world by knocking Roger Federer out of the tournament on Saturday opens up on Grandstand when Thanasi Kokkinakis takes on Fernando Verdasco. The Australian needs to overcome the obvious comedown after such a huge win. Sam Querrey is on court immediately after them when he faces the rising star Denis Shapovalov in what should be a tasty game and then after a women’s match Borna Coric will take on Jack Sock before the final match on the court sees Tomas Berdych taking on Frances Tiafoe.

Court 1

There is only one other men’s match to be played on Monday and it comes on Court 1 when the Acapulco finalist Kevin Anderson takes on Russian player Karen Khachanov in what is the first meeting between the two men.

Betting

I’m going to take two bets over the course of the action on Monday and we get going with the opening match on the main court where I like Pablo Carreno Busta to see off Steve Johnson. Carreno Busta had some quiet events on the clay but on the hard courts in recent times he has been very solid and it has taken a good player in form to beat him. I’m not sure Johnson is that. PCB ran Cilic close in Melbourne and was a semi-finalist in the US Open last year and I think he has the game to beat Johnson.

Kevin Anderson has won a lot of matches recently so he goes into his match with Karen Khachanov in good form but a large number of those wins have been in three sets and I wouldn’t be surprised if he goes the distance with the Russian either. If he doesn’t I fancy we will see a couple of close sets. These two have never met so it might take the South African a while to eye up Khachanov’s serve by which time we have been deep into a second if not third set. On the flip side of that Anderson’s serve is tough to get after so I wouldn’t be surprised to see a tiebreak or two here. That makes me think over 23.5 games has a decent chance of landing.
