2018 DP World Tour Championship Golf – Final Round Betting Preview

The final round of the European Tour season takes place on Sunday when the last 18 holes of the DP World Tour Championship is played out in Dubai. The Race to Dubai title is all but won so the focus will be on who will win this title.

We have a leaderboard absolutely packed with some of the world’s best quality which should make for a final round to remember as we get set for a shootout for the title on a golf course that fits the bill perfectly.

Round 3 Recap

We have joint leaders heading into the final round. Two of the last three Masters champions lead the way in Danny Willett and Patrick Reed. They are 14 under going into the last 18 holes and sit a shot ahead of Jordan Smith on -13. There is a trio of players on 12 under and they include our pre-tournament pick Dean Burmester. He is alongside Lee Westwood and Matt Wallace on that score. Tom Lewis and Adrian Otaegui is 11 under with another bunch of players on -10.

It was an annoying day for our two ball bet which looked to be cruising when Rahm was four up with five to play but frustratingly Henrik Stenson birdied four of the last five to tie Rahm’s score and provide us with a loser from what looked like being a certain winner.

Sunday Betting

The only market for us to go at from a big runner field point of view is the outright market but I’m already nicely represented in that one with Dean Burmester sat in a tie for fourth and just two shots off the lead. He might find winning in this company beyond him but there is no reason why his length can’t deliver a place at a monster price so I’m happy to sit with my current position in that market and head for the two balls for a bet on the day.

Sunday 2 Balls

The final pair onto the golf course is the 08.00 GMT pairing of Patrick Reed and Danny Willett but as ever in this tournament 30 pairs go out for the final round and we have odds available on all of them. The Jon Rahm and Henrik Stenson pairing will be popular with those on the golf course while Rory McIlroy and Kiradech Aphibarnrat are likely to drag a decent crowd around with them. It is the penultimate group that catches my eye on Sunday though.

Jordan Smith vs Lee Westwood

Match tees off at 07.50 GMT

The second to last group out onto the golf course is the one featuring the English pair of Jordan Smith and Lee Westwood. Both men have gone well this week and will feel they have a massive chance to win the final event of the year.

That would mean successive wins for Westwood if he can achieve it and listening to him in the commentary box after his round on Saturday he certainly doesn’t lack for confidence. Furthermore he knows exactly what Sunday’s are all about around here having played every renewal of this tournament here. This is Smith’s second outing here so he is still finding his way a little. He is also finding his way when it comes to being in contention of events of this kind too so he could be understandably a little nervous on Sunday. I don’t think Westwood will be. We know he’s playing well and he’s my pick in this market.
