The quarter finals of the European Masters takes place across two sessions of snooker action out in Lommel on Friday and with all the matches from here on in the tournament is ready to go up a notch as we get set to decide the champion.
We lost some of the bigger names on Thursday so the quarter final line up is an unexpected one it has to be said but that only means there is a good chance for someone to come up with the goods and make this week memorable.
Afternoon Session
Anthony Hamilton vs Jack Lisowski
The opening quarter final sees our one remaining outright pick Anthony Hamilton taking on the man who is now favourite to come through the top half of the draw in Jack Lisowski for a place in the semi-final.
These two have met on three occasions and they haven’t played a close match yet with Hamilton having a 4-0 win over Lisowski and the youngster having a 4-0 win and 6-1 win over Hamilton. I fancy this one might be a little closer but I don’t care if it isn’t as long as Hamilton wins. I’m not playing this match. I’ll sit on the outright bet here.
Tian Pengfei vs Joe Perry
The second of the quarter finals in the afternoon session sees probably the biggest surprise package of the week so far in Tian Pengfei facing up to the veteran who is no stranger to the latter stages of tournaments in Joe Perry.
Pengfei has upset a number of big names this week with Judd Trump and Liang Wenbo among his victims and he’ll be out for another big scalp here but Perry has played some good stuff himself and the way he disposed of Kyren Wilson on Thursday evening was ruthless and full of quality and a repeat of that makes him tough to beat here.
I’m tempted by Perry on the handicap here but Pengfei has been involved in a lot of close matches this season which is very much a negative as is the strange look Perry had towards the end of his win over Wilson which seemed to suggest he was struggling with something. I’ll leave this one.

Evening Session
Mark Allen vs Jimmy Robertson
The evening session kicks off with the new tournament favourite Mark Allen taking on a Jimmy Robertson who must wonder how he is still here having won his last three matches on the final black.
Robertson was 3-0 down to Anthony McGill in the previous round and still survived so Allen knows that he will have to put the Englishman away else this could be a long evening for The Masters champion. I do expect to see Allen win this but the way Robertson has hanging on makes me shy away from the handicaps and things.
Ryan Day vs Mark King
The last of the quarter finals sees Ryan Day looking to back up his fine win over Mark Selby in the previous round when he takes on a Mark King who has come through the draw quite nicely so far this week.
King has only lost two frames to make it to this stage so he is playing some nice stuff. He is scoring well and not doing a whole lot wrong but I’ve been impressed with Day so far this week. I thought he played very well in beating Selby. He generally has the better of his meetings against King and I expect him to come through here too. If he can get ahead early King hasn’t had to battle much this week so Day could power away from him.
Tips
Back R.Day (-1.5 frames) to beat M.King for a 4/10 stake at 2.10 with Coral
