It is the middle day of the Glorious Goodwood meeting on Thursday with the headline attraction being the Group 1 Nassau Stakes. We don’t have a selection in that race but after a winner on the undercard on Wednesday we’ve scoured the card and come up with a couple of bets throughout the day.
3.35 Goodwood: Nassau Stakes
Yet another Group 1 from Goodwood that has failed to attract 8 runners or more. An open race with 4 of the 6 runners vying for favouritism. I can’t bring myself to get excited about such a small field and, for the 3rd day on the spin, I’m looking elsewhere for my bets.

The opener is a competitive looking 3 year old handicap where they go 5/1 the field in a race of just 12 runners. 2 of the more fancied runners come straight out of novice company and, despite their potential, I’d prefer to look for one with proven handicap form.
Betting
The selection comes in the shape of Completion, a horse whose best run to date was when he finished 2nd behind Crack On Crack On in the Haydock Silver Bowl. That’s up there with the best form on offer & a repeat of that could well be good enough here. His career form including that run reads 312-120 with the only disappointment coming in the Britannia at Royal Ascot where he was eased when his chance had gone. Several of the runners in that race have gone on to win since so it would no surprise to see the selection bounce back to form.
His mark is just 4lb higher than that run at Haydock & the horse in front that day, Crack On Crack On, has since won off a 7lb higher mark than what he won off in that Haydock race. The selection steps up in trip which I feel is a plus (his yard talked about running him over this trip after his reappearance win) & the stable of William Haggas could hardly be in better form with 15 winners in the past fortnight. A bigger price than I was expecting means that he represents a fair bit of value.
Tips
Back Completion (e/w) for a 1/10 stake at 12.00 Betfair Sportsbook BOG (⅕ odds 1-4)

9 runners for the 2 year Group 2 Richmond Stakes & no less than 5 of the 7 with any realistic chance (ignoring the 2 rags) come here having run at Royal Ascot. The two that haven’t are Maries Diamond who has a good chance but is a little short at 5/1 & the selection, Neverland Rock.
Betting
From the Richard Hannon who has saddled 6 of the last 10 winners, the selection is being stepped back in trip & it is expected to suit. He ran a most promising race on his debut at Newbury behind Confiding when finishing well having been denied a clear run but then stepped up winning at Newmarket over 7 furlongs. He then contested the Group 2 Superlative Stakes & finished 4 lengths back in 3rd but it doesn’t tell the whole story. That day, the selection travelled best of all before stamina seemed to give way. Over a furlong shorter, he’d have come very close to winning.
He is Dettori’s 2nd ride back after a ban & it would be quite a story if he could land the spoils on this but I certainly wouldn’t be surprised especially with Hannon, who has already had 2 winners & 2 2nds at Goodwood on the first 2 days , nominating this one as his most likely of a winner all week. That’s almost a tip in itself and at 7/1, I’m happy to go along with his recommendation.
Tips
Back Neverland Rock (e/w) for a 1/10 stake at 7.50 William Hill BOG (⅕ odds 1-3)
