The third evening of action in the Grand Slam of Darts sees the final set of matches in Groups E-H drawing to a close on what promises to be another dramatic evening of action in Wolverhampton.
We will lose eight players over the course of the night with some big names under pressure to pick up a victory to keep their chances of making it into the knockout stages alive. As ever with the last group matches there is the potential for some nine dart shootouts along the way.
First Four Matches
The action begins with the world champion Rob Cross taking on Ryan Searle. Cross knows he is through and he’ll win the group with a victory while Searle goes home after this match. They are followed by Andrew Gilding and Glen Durrant for whom a win will send him into the knockout stages once again. Gerwyn Price then takes on Simon Whitlock with the Australian progressing if he wins and Durrant doesn’t. A 5-2 win would also put Whitlock through. Mensur Suljovic then meets Martin Schindler in the final match of the opening half of the evening.
Later Four Matches
Stephen Bunting faces Scott Mitchell to get the second half of the night underway. Mitchell has to win to have a chance of going through while four legs guarantees Bunting a path through to the last 16. Max Hopp then meets Jim Williams in a match the German knows if he wins he will go through should Peter Wright beat Josh Payne in the match that follows. The final match of the night is the only straight knockout game on the evening when Dimitri Van den Bergh takes on the BDO world finalist Mark McGeeney.

Betting
I’ll go with a couple of bets over the course of the evening. Gerwyn Price has won the last two meetings with Simon Whitlock and although he doesn’t need to win I think the Welshman can make it three wins on the spin. Whitlock has gone back into his shell on the big stage for me and hasn’t really impressed this week. Price looks bang up for this tournament and he’s in a top run of form right now as well which will give him confidence here. Price looks the bet in this one.
Jim Williams has given a game account of himself in this tournament but come the crunch moments he has been outclassed and I expect Max Hopp to be too good for him as well. Hopp is playing some nice darts at the minute and he’s looking composed at the crunch times. Williams doesn’t sustain his scoring enough for my liking and looks capable of the odd meltdown on the doubles. I think Hopp will come through with a bit in hand here.
Tips
Back G.Price to beat S.Whitlock for a 4/10 stake at 1.85 with 888sport
Back M.Hopp (-1.5 legs) to beat J.Williams for a 4/10 stake at 2.00 with Betfred
