2018 Open de France Golf – Round 3 Betting Preview

We have reached the halfway mark of the Open de France, the third Rolex Series event of the season, and having lost half of the field to the cut we are left with dead on 65 players who will be looking to make their move in the third round on Saturday.

After a tough day, particularly in the afternoon on Friday, we are left with just 15 players under as one of the best courses on the European Tour continues to win against the best the continent have to offer.

Round 2 Recap

An amazing early round by Marcus Kinhult has given him the halfway lead on six under par and it is an advantage he holds by two shots ahead of Chris Wood who is second on four under. Jon Rahm and Bradley Dredge are tied for third on three under with a real good group on two under par including our pre-tournament pick Matthew Fitzpatrick and the world number two Justin Thomas. Tyrrell Hatton, Russell Knox and Paul Dunne are all a shot further back on one under with the likes of Thomas Pieters and Sergio Garcia on even par through two rounds.

We had a winner and a loser in our three ball bets on Friday to yield a tiny profit so hopefully we can get something going with those in the last two rounds. We do have Fitzpatrick nicely placed at halfway to launch a tilt at this title though so it could still be a very good week in Paris.

Saturday Betting

There is a lack of markets heading into the third round of this tournament although I’m not massively surprised with that because there are some big names to be feared stalking the leading two and they will all be looking to make their mark over the course of the afternoon to get themselves in a position from where they can strike on Sunday. With no multiplayer market to go at it is a look at the two balls for a bet on Saturday.

Saturday 2 Balls

The remaining 65 players are out in twos on Saturday with the leading duo of Kinhult and Wood out at 13.10 BST. The pick of the groups is out 20 minutes before that though when Matthew Fitzpatrick goes out alongside Justin Thomas. Alex Noren and Shane Lowry are also alongside each other in one of the earlier groups out onto the golf course for those with tickets who arrive early but from a betting point of view it is the final group which gets our attention.

Marcus Kinhult vs Chris Wood

Match tees off at 13.10 BST

The final two out onto the golf course on Saturday are Marcus Kinhult and Chris Wood and while the Swedish youngster has a two shot lead on Wood it is the Englishman that I like the look of the most in this one.

Kinhult shot an incredible 65 on Friday morning but he caught the better of the conditions to deliver that round and I’m not sure he is going to be able to replicate that in the pressure cooker of the final group on ‘moving day’. Wood has been here a number of times. He has won the flagship event around Wentworth and competed in the Ryder Cup so this will be water off a ducks back to him. He has performed very well into and on the greens this week and if he can find a couple more fairways he’ll be right there to bring home this two ball at 5/6.
