2018 PDC World Cup of Darts – Quarter Finals Betting Preview

The PDC World Cup of Darts is down to the quarter final stage with all four matches in the round taking place in the afternoon session in Frankfurt on Sunday. All of the fancied nations have made it through to this stage so we should get a decent afternoon of darts despite the nonsense of a format.

The tournament then concludes in the evening with the semi-final and the final. Time restrictions will deny us the chance to get stuck into those but we’ll preview all four quarter finals below.

Wales vs Australia

On paper the most even of the four matches is the opening match between Wales and Australia. I think it is fair to say that Wales haven’t performed how they will have wanted to in the tournament thus far and we will find out whether that has been bad form or whether they have suffered with the pressure of being the favourites.

Australia have been much the better of the two sides so far in the competition but if we’ve seen anything and learnt from what has gone on down the years it is that nobody is safe in this and what has gone before doesn’t really matter. You would think this will come down to the doubles but I’m already on Wales outright and I’m happy to leave this and hope that they win.

Scotland vs Japan

The mismatch on paper of the afternoon is the second game of the day when the top seeds Scotland go up against the surprise packages of the event in Japan in a match the former finalists are expected to win without the need of the singles.

Credit must go to the Japanese pair. It isn’t as though they don’t deserve to be at this stage of the tournament because they certainly do but the format has gone against them now. If this was just doubles you could make a real case for them but it is harder to believe they can win a singles match to get to the doubles game. I expect Scotland to win here but there’s no value in backing them.

England vs Belgium

The match of the quarter finals from a quality point of view is likely to be the third match of the day where former champions England take on a team who are no strangers at going deep in this competition in Belgium.

England have made it through to this stage without really being convincing but there is no doubt that there is more to come from them. I think there is more to come from Belgium too. They have already dodged a massive bullet which might make them think their name is on the trophy. I fully expect this one to go down to the doubles and Belgium have been much the better of the two in that discipline so I’m on them here.

Germany vs Netherlands

The last match in the quarter finals sees the defending champions Netherlands going up against the host nation Germany for the second year in a row in this round. Netherlands obviously won last year and they are massive favourites to win again.

Germany performed really well in the previous round to make it past Northern Ireland but they need to go up a level or two to be competitive in this match you would think. It is hard to see the Netherlands not winning this but at the prices it is an easy one to swerve.
