The Royal London One Day Cup is back from a day off on Tuesday and it returns with three matches in the competition. We are into the second half of the round robin stage now so wins are important for everyone involved from here on in.
We have one match on TV on Tuesday which we will cover first. That is from the South Group. We also have one other from the South Group and a match from the North Group too. The usual ways to keep updated with them will be in operation.
Kent vs Somerset
The day-night offering comes from the South Group and it is a big match for both Kent and Somerset when they meet at Canterbury. It might be a bigger match for Somerset as they have played a match more but Kent only have four points from their four matches so they could really do with a win.
Kent go into the match off the back of successive wins although how they beat Hampshire I think half the country are still wondering. Somerset flew out of the traps this season with two wins but then after two defeats they managed to see off Middlesex last time out to restore some confidence but I’m not sure I want to trust either when it comes to betting on them to win the match.
One bet I do like as a main bet in the match is in the boundaries where a line of 50.5 looks on the low side. Whenever these two meet at Canterbury it tends to be high scoring, whether that is in this competition or the T20 Blast. I don’t expect anything different here either. We’ve had two matches on this ground in this tournament and both have had 57 boundaries without a score reaching 300. With Sam Billings and Johann Myburgh returning to lengthen their respective line ups I think we’ll get a couple of big scores here which will send the boundaries beyond 50.5.
Roelof van der Merwe has scores of 34*, 61 and 52 in his last three innings in this tournament so he’s far too big to top score at 16/1 for Somerset. That is especially the case when you consider he is their third highest scorer and only James Hildreth has more than 180 runs in the competition for the Cidermen. Hildreth is clearly the man to beat but if Kent can get rid of him early the Dutch international could bring in the bacon at a right old price.

Surrey vs Sussex
Two of the better limited overs sides in the country meet at The Oval in one of the earlier starts and a big match it is too with both sides on two wins. Surrey have played a match less but their run rate is dreadful so this is a match they can’t afford to lose if they have aspirations of qualifying.
I’ve backed Surrey for this competition so I hope they can win this one but with Dean Elgar having left they might feel they are up against it. That said Jason Roy is back now and Morne Morkel is in their squad for the first time. Sussex have Luke Wright, Jofra Archer and Chris Jordan back so they should be strong. I’m going to stick with Surrey to win this just on batting power alone but they are too short for me to back.
Worcestershire vs Leicestershire
The other early start is a top against bottom clash in the North Group as the leaders Worcestershire will look to extend their lead at the summit when they take on a Leicestershire side who will be as good as eliminated if they fail to win this match.
Worcestershire have picked up where they left off last season and already look a good side and you would expect them to beat Leicestershire especially with Moeen Ali back in their side but they’ve lost Travis Head which might just be a concern. I still wouldn’t back against them but at a tiny price I’ll let them win if they are good enough.
